Where are you starting from that is 5.5 days from North Kilworth? On an earlier thread you said you were trying to move a boat from Leicester, which is pretty close.

And 5.5 days at canalplan's default 7 hours per day is under 40 hours, so can be done in the 4.5 days you have if you are prepared to do 9 hour days.

Starting from Langley in Nottingham lol. I can do the hours but north Kilworth have said they don't fo anything on a weekend so I'd have to wait till Monday to see if they have space to lift but its bank holiday so no one is going to be answering the phone and booking boats in. Everyone will be in the pub having a drink for the Queen

This is where it is going wrong. Booking transport without first sorting out where and when the craning can be done is a recipe for grief.

I suggest you call off the lorry while you sort out the cranes. Or better, ask the boat transport company. They will know where all the cranes are!

I did have a cranage booked and was told that the day before was also available, so transport was available for the day before and when I called back to change it to the day before I was told it was booked.

Im a bit confused here....NKM is about a days boating...maybe less with an early start and a clear passage down foxton from debdale wharf...Debdale don't work weekends either as the space next to the gantry is used by DIY blacking at weekends....

Yelvertoft and Crick both have space for a crane but you need to sort the crane hire

The best method of all is use a boat transport specialist e.g. Tuckeys and let them book the lifts each end rather than try to organise it oneself.

Indeed. I’m still not quite sure what the OP is trying to achieve

I'm imagining they want a boat of some sort moved from Sawley to Debdale.

Might be easier and no more expensive to book a boat mover rather than a lorry as it isn't that far.

I thought that at first then it was suggested it would take 5 1/2 days to move from NKM to Debdale......we don't know if its cruiser that could use a slipway .....or a wide beam that might have an issue with Foxton.....

I think we've done the best we can for now, given the OP is keeping their cards close to their chest and revealing the very minimum possible info.

Yes we really need some more info to help out here....such as type of boat...where to/from...whos doing the trucking etc.

The OP has mentioned its a narrow boat.

ahhh fair point...missed that bit....so that means that NKM can do it with a hoist....or a crane at Crick or Yelvertoft....Yelvertoft have a trolley for getting boats out on the slip but it cant lift from transport...or any of the above if you can tie a free date in with the transport...or use a boat mover as its not too far...as long as the river doesn't go into flood....which is unlikely at present

No, it was only clueless Chris John mentioned NKM, which is beyond debdale from Sawley or Langley.

This confused the OP , and most others, who put NKM into canalplan to muddy the mix from Sawley and Langley

If the boat has a working engine it is 3 days cruise, if the boat cant cruise, it cant get to any other point for a lift.

If it can...

Most obvious spot is Red Hill Marina, own lift out hoist, and motorway access for lorry transport.

The specific is that the OP wanted a cheap lift out,  I cant imagine anyone will do a boat lift for much less than £300 in this time of diesel prices.

The boat is in Nottingham which is why is 5 days on canal planner,  its a narrowboat that's heading to to the thames hence the need to lift. I tried tuckeys and asked them about lifting etc 2 twice and no one got back to me. I asked for steerage service to get her from limehouse basin to Gillingham and no one would get back to me, the one person that did wanted £2,300 for less than a days work. I have exhausted all options and been left to try and figure it out myself.

7 X 12 hour days would get you from Nottingham to Brentford in a narrowboat

3 X10 hour days would get you to Debdale with time in hand .

4 X 10 hr days to Dunchurch Pools who lift

These were from Castle Marina Nottingham, you may be somewhere else

As others have said why not redhill Marina? Straight on a truck to Kent. I’m afraid cranes & trucks cost money….and cheap might not be best…you need a crane co that are used to lifting boats…eg wide nylon strops & spreader bars…not chains or wire round the hull.

I think I might have quoted a similar price as to take a random narrowboat of unknown reliability out into the Thames Estuary is asking for trouble. My guess is he was planning to charter a known reliable boat and master to accompany him on the trip, hence the high price.

I don't know what a fair charge is for taking a boat from Linehiyse to Gillingham is but it is important to accept that the cost is a lot more than just the labour. Firstly, I would want someone is who is both qualified and experienced. Secondly, there are overheads such as insurance, NI, and also there seems to be an expectation that tte srvuce should be available at short notice. The quicker the response time the more the provider will have down time which also has to be paid for. The other factor is competition. If there is only one provider then they can monopolistically charge what they feel maximises their income. Customers should always recognise that ability to afford something us down to them not the provider, other than in regulated markets.
