Ok - so what is going to heat these radiators and what is its maximum output?

But they don't know how big a boiler they need which is why they want to work out the rad sizes.

Yes, perhaps they are working backwards which isn't such a bad idea, but must have some idea of whether it's a solid fuel stove with backboiler or diesel heater?

It is a bit 'Chicken & Egg' do you fit a heat source and then match the radiators to suit, or, fit the radiators and then match the heat source to suit.

It is no use have (say) 10Kw of radiators and a 5Kw heat source.

There are many websites that will tell you how many Kw you need to heat a 'space' so simply work out the volume of the boat (for example, say the boat is 20 metres long x 2 metres high, x 2 metres wide, the volume is 80 cubic metres)

80 m3 would require approximately 8Kw

https://www.plumbnation.co.uk/heating-calculator/#roomType=livingRoom&hlcRoomHeight=2&hlcRoomWidth=2&hlcRoomLength=20&hlcGlazedArea=4&windowType=singleGlazedMetal&externalWalls=4&wallType=brickSolid105&belowRoom=soilUnderConcreteFloor&aboveRoom=flatRoofInsulated

You need to 'fudge' the figures as it is based on 'bricks and mortar'

You can then fit an 8Kw heat source (Diesel boiler, solid fuel fire etc).

Most NB's seem to be comfortable with a 5Kw heat source.
