What’s up on the Worcester & Birmingham?

There have now been 3 police incidents on the W&B in the last week or so. All announced in advance.

Are they conducting training sessions for their search team? If so I hope they are social distancing!

Without looking at the maps I don't know if they are progressively down hill.  If they are it makes me wonder if what they are interested in is drifting down the canal.

The whole flight from Stoke Prior to the top of Tardebigge is very popular with dog walkers - in fact any sort of walkers - so I’m suspecting it’s a pre-planned control on numbers by blocking the towpath. Us boaters get to find out in advance. Then we can plan to walk the dog elsewhere ?.

Is that why they are doing it on weekends ?

I don’t know. It was a bit of a guess that’s what it’s for in the first place but it seems to be the most logical reason for a series of pre-determined police incidents. I’ve noted them come through and initially raised an eyebrow at the effectiveness of West Mercia Police’s intelligence operations until it was obvious there must be a common link between these incidents.

I’ll have a scout around some local sources and see if there have been any genuine incidents that may have caused this to happen.

Please be advised that in support of the Police as part of an ongoing investigation, the Canal and River Trust will be carrying out some dewatering of select pounds during the week commencing 04/05/2020.

As a result of this navigation of the flight will be restricted until the activity each day has concluded and the pounds re-watered.

During each phase of de-watering the towpath will be closed to mitigate against fall from height and will be managed onsite by the Police.

Canal and River Trust colleagues will be on-site each day to provide assistance and guidance where possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
