Ex Lifeboat ; Fuel system: Flame Resistor

I have just had a boat safety inspection. The chap said I need a flame resistor fitted to the fuel system, the fuel cap is on top of the boat.  Has anyone got an ex lifeboat and had a similar issue?

Petrol? Diesel? A flame trap or fuel tank vent is a simple remedy if thats what you mean??

Maybe the inspector said a fuel tank flame arrester? In which case yes, it’s just a flame trap vent.

Agreed but that one looks like it should fail the BSS - no flame trap gauze "pill" down the holes!

One I bought was like that. Had to take it back. Then this BSS the gauze had disappeared, the BSS guy had a van full ready. The OP could have a problem as being an ex lifeboat it will probably have a different tank venting system

You're in a feckin' lifeboat and you're worrying about s#it like this?!  Get off the internet and on to your radio - make the Mayday call and then get some flares up!!

I like it, I have bought a vent with gauze, ie a flame arrestor. Cheers

Thats actually an interesting point. My Sabb 2J was a lifeboat engine (probably) and that has some unusual fittings on the fuel system, oil filler and breathers to ensure all the fluids dont spill out when you roll your boat. Yet to try that though..
