  1. I'm 61 and have come close to pms but that's medical.

  3. Happened to me some years ago when loaded and on a long line. Never seen a boat so well stuck up on the offside mud (them not us).
  4. Did you get the 'boats like that shouldn't be on the canal' shout?
  5. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=boat+safety+scheme+

  9. That would be the fool proof state of the art computer controlled engine control system catching fire I expect. Give me a speedwheel and bloody great lever every time.
  10. I have none of these issues in my very ordinary house with a view of lots of other very similar ones on a very ordinary estate in a very ordinary town. If anyone wants to swap ......
  11. Aye. Currently converting all our publicly accessible sockets to mains / USB and fitting a couple of extras. Spent the price of a small car refurbing our loos last year.
  12. Taken about three days after being repainted last but one time in 2011. Done two long fuel runs a year since then, got battered to buggry and mostly repainted once.

  14. No more than maybe a single pint of shandy from a lock side pub as we pass through when it's really really hot. Always felt boating was too fraught with opportunities for mishaps to do it any different.
  15. As a (reputable) business they should have significant public liability and relevant business insurance. That insurance would I expect be conditional on persons under the control of the employer being responsible for acts insured by the policy and having had suitable training to carry them out. That's certainly the case with mine. Having someone who's never done it before put the boat on the trolley is pretty much the the opposite of what an H&S risk assessment would demand I think. As regards whether your insurance would cover any damage caused during the process - you'd have to read the policy and look at exactly what's covered, working on the assumption that if it's not specifically in, it's out. Most policies exclude things that should be covered by other legally required policies like business insurance.
  16. Given that promting political debate seems to have been barred unless you were one of the chosen few, yes. The rules are now being applied 'without fear or favour'.
  17. The Brexit thread is in my opinion the height of hypocrisy. The forum managers should be above reproach behave in a manner that and equals or exceeds their expectations of others. To say it's not a political thread is cobblers - it's the equivalent of Traffic Cops going home from work at 90mph.
  18. .. and wholesale cost of a pint circa £1.20, cost of making the coffee - probably less than 20p.
  19. They're a business not a charity, see above re supermarkets using alcohol as a loss-leader. .. and I suspect they can afford to buy beer in pubs, just not as much as they want.
  20. Supermarkets can typically buy in cheaper than the pubs can, and therefore afford to sell at break-even or a loss given what else they sell. Bemoaning the price of pint in high-rent areas of London just ignores the reality of the business overheads.
  21. I think it's all about the er, adrenalin rush they get when they bounce a signal off the underside of the ionosphere and speak to someone a long way away. Unpredictable and reliant on weather conditions. CQ CQ CQ DX ...... Or you could just phone. Bit like Captain Tim getting all exited about the picture of Hampshire he took from space. Yeah, we know it looks like that, we've got Google earth. Or football. I don't get that either.
  22. Yes. Got invited aboard HMS Beaver in Liverpool after looking after the crew when they got the 'freedom of the town' in Bolton. Drank CSB. Still have no idea how I got home. As an aside, HMS Beaver replaced HMS Dido as Bolton's adopted warship. Someone in Whitehall has a sense of humour.

    And more!

Yes. I blame the nanny state.
  24. The use of + and - is a long established practice to force the inclusion or exclusion of responses containing the terms following those characters. Doesn't work in all search engines, however the forums did seem to when I used them just now.
