  1. Raising the height of the business end of the balance beam would make it more comfortable to push on.

  5. My experience is with the Arcrite versions. Arcrite offerred a long bow and a short bow version. The long bow is the highly curved version. The stern on that 33' above doesn't look typical to me. The taff rail is wrong in that it goes down at an angle not at 90 degrees. There ought to be a detachable plate covering the rudder stock in the centre of the counter.
  6. I had an Arcrite 35' built at the end of '83. These were clones of the Harborough hulls built by ex employees. It was all steel and was from memory 6-5-4 (base - hull- topsides). I imagine the true Harboroughs were the same.

  9. So if it's blue then probably Surecal but otherwise colour is no clue to the maker. Can the OP confirm that an expansion vessel is fitted? Without these in place calorifiers are stressed and more prone to leaks. Definately worthwhile fitting if not to protect the replacement calorifier.
  10. What colour is the insulation around the tank? Current Surecal ones use blue insulation. Maybe other makes use other colours? Does anyone know?
  11. Hi Rocketman, A few questions: Can you see water dripping from the stern gland? Try placing a container under it like an old ice cream tub. See if the puiddle still appears. Modern stern glands, unless they are of the sealed kind, dont rely on grease. Those mostly used on narrowboats have gland packing (a kind pf greasy rope) which squeezes tightly around the shaft. They have a way to tighten them, either nuts & bolts or screwed rings Are you sure that the water is not leaking coolant? Is the level going down in the header tank? Dip your finger in the puddle - does it smell sweet? If you are brave taste it. If sweet it will be anti freeze. Beware though ant freeze is toxic. Do you have a bildge pump? If so set on automatic. The stern gland is where the prop shaft exits the interior of the boat through the stern post. The prop is on the other (wet) side.

  13. Is there a stop cock before he pump which is not turned on? Did you drain the calorifier? I'd start by opening all of the cold taps then turn on the pump. That should sort out any air locks. If not then try removing the output side pipe from the pump to make sure the water is getting that far. If it is keep working forwards through the system. The question re calorifier is that it may need to fill before there is anything left to come through the taps. Open the shower or kitchen hot tap first to allow air in.

I expect the boat will still be at Aqueduct Marina where it was offerred for sale so Church Minshull.
  15. Maybe? Amy The Pup Built by Unknown - Length : 13.25 metres ( 43 feet 6 inches ) - Beam : 2.13 metres ( 7 feet ) - Draft : 0.76 metres ( 2 feet 6 inches ). Metal hull N/A power of 999 HP. Registered with Canal & River Trust number 77822 as a Powered Motor Boat. ( Last updated on Wednesday 22nd May 2013 )
  16. I got the impression that the OP was wanting to replace the wooden piece at the bottom corner of radiused windows rither than beading. This would be rightangled at the two edges with a curve replicating that of the window. As others have said these are probably all bespoke, being made by the fitter out to suit the panelling around the window.
  17. But they are suitable for caravans. It could be said that narrowboats are effectively floating caravans. Just what feature of boats makes the difference? Is it the salt water or the heeling over that can be experienced on lumpy water?
  18. Are there any items on board that look like they are original with a serial number that could be traced? The engine is the obvious one but perhaps a cooker or inverter would do. You would not get a definitive date but you would arrive at a likely not built after date.
  19. Now, Uber offer the first ride free. I wonder how far you could go for nothing?
  20. My boat is mainly green with a cream roof. Laying your hand on the topsides and the roof on a summers day shows a tremendous difference in temperature. Whereas the roof is pleasantly warm, you cannot hold your hand on the green cabinside. My garage door at home is also painted dark green and even at this time of year if there is any sun you can feel the warmth emitted from the door if you stand close. I would go for the light colour every time.
  21. How do these adapters cope with the variations in input voltage that could be seen while alternators are running? Do they act as stabilisers too?
  22. This list does have Barry Hawkins details for Baddesley. May be what you have already seen. https://www.waterways.org.uk/waterways/canals_rivers/coventry_canal/boatyards
  23. There is a listing of marinas on canaljunction: http://www.canaljunction.com/boat/marinas_midlands.htm Baddesley is not on it ?
