  3. I would think it will be olives and union nuts. For Alan, with a smile on my face. The pressure is not high enough to warrant anything more on a diesel or petrol engine lubricating system or feed to a gauge.

You may well get it from a local motor factors. Edit put kunifer into a search engine and just go for the word kunifer the first hit I got was 3/16x25ft from Clarik on Amazon I think that bundy was not copper nickel (kunifer) but ordinary steel brake pipe. Possible with the passage of time it became like "hoover" and other generic names.

  6. £50 or so for the stainless Brass bands, bottom handle, chain hook £8-00. Powder coating £20 at least Rivets and aluminum D section £3-00 Petrol / diesel for running around and delivery ???????? Labour at x £ per hour. A means of cutting or getting cut the stainless sheet to shape Set of rollers if you do not have them. Rivet set Planishing hammer, files, hand shears. Angle grinder discs and drills ( stainless is tough to drill and you will need plenty of them)

  10. Banbury find the "Old Reindeer" Pub and then go into the very special room. You will be stepping back into history. If you have to do through Banbury lock to moor then be aware that the foundry start work early and its very noisy. Good supermarket to the right ( going towards Oxford ) about half a mile below Banbury lock. If you go to Oxford and not out onto the Thames at Dukes cut then a little bit before the last lock on the Oxford towards your left its worth finding the "Bookbinders" pub. Also shops in the main road up from the Bookbinders.

  13. in 1985 I cam remember walking to the side of the engine house to another pub. This was fairly basic and had a games room as well as the bar?s. Although there is a pub in this location now it is not the one I am writing about. Anyone fill in anymore please
  14. Different Barry, The Vine ( Bull and Bladder) does nice pork pies and huge rolls. There are two local Bathams pubs The Vine and also one in Stourbridge the Royal Exchange. Been in both highly recomended. Also on the Bathams list is the lamp Tavern in Dudley. Not been in there yet Mad o Roukes just a little walk from the moorings at the back of the Black Country Muesum. The cow pie is not for the faint hearted. Ma Pardoes food upstairs is very good. Moor just before Withymoor Boat club on the same side and there is a track to the walkway that goes to the boat club, up the walkway then turn right at the road and walk a little way to the pub which is on the same side as you are walking.
  15. Looking at the drawing then I would think that the original way to hold the paddles up was a basic rachet and pawl mechanism. Part number 33b being the pawl ( still in place on the paddle gear). Part number 33a the ratchet arm Part number 34 the ratchet pivot bolt not numbered on the drawing but the through bolt assemble just beloe the notation 3b would have been bolted to the now broken part. This is the ratchet arm stop as well. Part numbers 30 and 31 were these guide plates with the ratchet arm sitting between them

    It might be worth ringing Morris oils direct and ask for the distibuter for your area. It comes in 4x5Ltre or a 25 Ltre drum. The drum does have a pouring spout.

  20. Cannot remember the the pipe diameter but I think it might be 4-1/2 Measure the outside diameter of the pipe thread and then look it up in a BSP thread chart.
  21. Direct reading bore gauges are made by Bowers, before looking at the price purchase some smelling salts and its also best to be sitting down.
  22. Where the ring is working is not really relevant, when new bores are the same diameter all the way from top to bottom. Measure the ring gap at the top of the bore above the wear line and then right at the bottom. Vertical movement of the ring in the groove in the piston should be not very much cannot give you are figure - you don't want the ring sliding up and down in the ring groove. Be very carefull with rings they are cast iron and snap very easily. They should be a reasonbly easy to spread to get them out of the ring groove.
  23. As well as measuring the ring gap at the top of the unworm part of the bore you should also do the same with the ring right at the bottom of the bore. General rule of thumb for unworn rings is a gap of 004/1000 per inch of diameter of the bore. In the case of a 3 inch bore that will be a minimum gap of 12/1000 in an unworn area. If you look on a search engine for diesel piston ring gaps you will find out more.

We also had the pleasure of Richards company for a day going North emptyish on the Southern Oxford with the Narrowboat Trust pair, He had a go at everything ( and did well ) and while waiting at locks if he was not busy with us he took every chance to chat with other boaters. I saw him a few months later - was instantly recognised and addressed by my correct christian name.
