  1. Had dealings a few years ago with another boat built in Morocco by a different builder. The steelwork looked great when it was new, but after a few years there were slabs of filler falling off the sides. The steelwork underneath was crap.

  3. It's all pretty arbitrary what speed the engine is turning at anyway, so not the end of the day if you don't get it right. As long as you have a fairly good idea of what three mph sounds like you don't need much else.
  4. Aluminium being very reactive’self-anodises’, I.e. it forms a passive layer to prevent further corrosion. As this will be readily rubbed off on the slides it will corrode quite quickly and won’t slide easily. Brass is dearer, but you only buy it once. a bit of wax polish dribbled on the runner occasionally helps it run smoothly, or as suggested, HDPE or nylon coating on the slide will help. Having said that, mine is plain steel like yours in contact with brass runners.

  7. They are for monitoring movement which CRT do regularly. Anyone who has studied geology or geomorphology will recognise the classic solifluction profile of the bank.
  8. I recently painted some varnished T&G with Johnstones acrylic eggshell. It is water-based, but is very durable. Brushed on easily and gave a smooth matt finish, with minimal prepartion. Water-based 'gloss' paints have moved on a lot in recent years. Nothing like emulsion.
  9. I don't think you need all black ones, but you must reverse the red and black wires to allow the dark to escape into the room. Plus you need extra-transparent shades (except they are not shades of course, they are "lights').
  10. It wasn’t that long ago that Saltersford wasn’t timed. That did lead to some interesting situations.
  11. They have a revival every so often with all sorts of claims made for them, usually with a reference to their use in the Spitfire. Better mpg, reduced emissions and various other wonderful improvements designed to take in the gullible. With all the fuss about emissions and CO2 wouldn’t they be standard if they worked?
  12. My stove is at the front of the saloon. There is a gap under the bow doors which will let in plenty of air. Better than cutting a big hole just above the water line, with or without a swan neck.
  13. 500MB? That’s only about half an hour of HDTV. 500GB meant maybe?
  14. In my usual cruising range even within a few miles we can go from Welsh to North West to Midlands. I use an Omni and although I often have to retune to find the stronger signal it’s not often I don’t get good reception, without a booster. It made a big difference when they turned off the analogue transmitters and boosted the digital signal.
  15. Unlike most marinas, who slap it on as quickly as possible- two coats if you are lucky. I use chap 4” brushes, wrap in cling film between coats (good for two or three days) then binned.
  16. Which is why there is also a led light so I know the pump is on ...
  17. This is what I have. A switched supply to the ch pump. Doesn’t get the rads as hot as the heating, but as Tony says, enough to take the chill off. And all the plumbing is already in place.

  19. I think that one just uses the fan to cool the sides, rather than being a fan oven where the fan is used within the oven to circulate the air (actually heats the air that it blows into the oven).

  21. And prone to cracking due to vibration which you don’t get in a house.
  22. Is a police report number checkable? Or could I make one up and put on here as part of my post to show I have a legitimate reason for needing to find the boat? I would still be wary.
  23. True. Not a problem for BSS. Different for RCD, and , I believe, commercial boats.
  24. Flexible’marine grade’ hose for the waste is what was recommended to me, preferably double clipped with SS jubilees. a definite no-no is solvent-welded rigid pipe as is normal in a house. Your pipe looks fine, just clean it up and clean it with some bleach occasionally. Try and make sure it drains downwards to the outlet without a dip that will hold water. Outlet can be below 10 inches above the waterline if it is connected as described above, as outlet effectively becomes the top of the sink.
