Its the way of the canals, not a problem, just a damn nuisance. Poly bags do little damage, may wear a bit of blacking off the extreme end of the swim .
Checked engine earth? Is it hand start?
Remove the wire off the D+, little spade connection.
Take a bit of wire from the D+ to a bulb, 5 or 6 watts or bigger, and from the other side of the bulb direct onto the battery + terminal ( assuming the battery is - earthed )
Start engine.
Now does it work?
I would look at an out and back from near Leeds on the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Wide, quiet, scenic and some fantastic staircase locks, some of which are manned. And stunning towns like Saltaire.
Sam ( not his real name ) is a misery, well known for it here about. I am very much nicer but also recognise a pain in the butt know it all just as well, and i have not been on here very long. Might be too long though, got warned first B week.
Buy one like this, cheap and very good, there are other sellers, if from China will be even cheaper but take time to arrive.

Infra red thermometer, very handy for checking gearbox, stern gland, and alternator temperatures as well.
Had a natter with a locky about lock 4 last night.
Its reckoned to be getting worse by the day, bulges in the walls and more boats getting stuck part way up or down.
Not helped by RCR uprooting the edge stones when they got the last well jammed boat out, any more news about this?
I could tell you exactly how to use a manometer correctly, it would not tell you lies.
But I am not going to have the old Knows all about nowt boiler spew all over my threads like he does with Sam, who really seems to know what is what. Where is Sam?
Been some big alterations to that hull, a bulkhead and more has been cut out, how old is it?
It has a very narrow base plate and steep angle side sheets.
There is some sort of port on the side?
Needs gaps in cross angles on both sides to let water flow back
I have stainless bolts welded on for one set of anodes, and one end of the second set, other end is welding straight on. One set is older than the other so I only change one at a time.
Never torn a bolt off.
Would never drill a hole for a bolt.
