  5. according to my better half who does Twitter, they were asking people to flag any reference in their literature/T&C's they hadn't already changed so it could be updated. i'll ask her later if she can find it again, she's busy on video calls at the moment

  7. sediment in your fuel filter? pull a sample from the tank into an empty jam jar and let it settle for a few minutes, then you can see if there's any water or sludge in it.

    wasn't that a song by UB40?
  11. could it have been around the time of the software upgrade? may have been lost from the search during that time if active whilst the backup happened??
  12. looking at my Dunchurch literature there's no mention of beam at all, the only use of the word "wide" is in relation to the jetties the mooring plan shows only narrow craft. i do like the wide entrance though especially as its a very windy marina, also feels huge after Overwater and some of the bridge holes on the Shroppie and surrounds
  13. i see what you're saying, and have struggled in high wind to leave a marina with a narrow entrance in the direction i wanted as i just could not angle the boat to take account of conditions. i've also seen the state of the opposite bank outside Great Haywood Marina (and added to the scars myself after stopping for a pumpout). that said, admittedly in my limited experience of the system, i've not seen a marina on any other narrow canal with a wide entrance.
  14. this was kind of my take on it, when Dunchurch was planned CRT must have seen the entrance dimensions etc. so either agreed to it or overlooked it. i've only passed Barby twice and can't remember what the entrance is like, am assuming it is similarly proportioned, and that was a good ten years prior to Dunchurch i think so precedent has kind of been set. like with the current toilet confusion, it's pretty much a problem of CRT's own making.
  15. no, do you? obviously you have some insight that the rest of us don't, either that or you're deliberately trying to start arguments
  16. the money can’t be found to maintain the system we have, where’s the cash coming from to convert all the narrow waterways and locks to wide beam?
  17. Aaarrrgghhh! bane of my formative years, should be purged from history
  18. but if things last too well they get passed on rather than new bought, not good for the company sales department. a good example are Ladybird books, ones from the 60s/70s built like tanks, ones from the 80s/90s when the materials changed not so much.
  19. and some sort of magnet on a long cord/rope to attempt rescue of any of the above. sea searchers from chandleries are popular but if getting a modern neodymium-type make sure its not a super strong 100's of kg pull one, if it locks onto the side of the boat you're never getting it off

  21. problem is, not one of the youtubers advocating separating toilets takes their waste to compost. they all bang on about how much better than pumpout or cassette they are, call them compost toilets, and then bag and bin it all. joe newboater-public, who has gained all their knowledge from vloggers, sees that and follows that example.
  22. our council contracts the "household waste recycling centres" with Suez, this means they knocked an hour off the opening times (bit hard to nip after work now) and got rid of the rubble/plaster skips. You have to register your vehicle to use them, and if over a certain size or using a trailer are limited to 12 visits a year. If its a signed work vehicle you'll be turned away. Oddly fly tipping increased massively. I'm between two sites, the one at Leeds Rd in Hudds is staffed by a bunch of miserable gits who only pop out of the cabin to swipe any choice items or shout at folk for using the wrong skip, or the slightly further away one in Meltham where the staff will help you unload if they're not busy or if its an older customer and are always cheerful. Guess which one i go to?
