  1. Ha! Just refurbed the Becton Bunny. New throat plate in. New blocks in. Just fired up and WOW. As OP says. BRING IT ON!

    Volts v amps

Is meter on AC instead of DC? Or vice versa if AC Turbine?
  3. Wonder where Mercedes get the metal from. According to this forum my Vito must have been made out of reject Chinese bacofoil!
  4. http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=73176&hl=batt.png#entry1488943 post 10 shows approx. charge vs consumption fo 12v system.
  5. Seconded. I have a Beta75 With insulated bay above the waterline & especially deckboards. People can sit on my back deck with engine running & listen to the honda EU two boats down. They don't even know mine is running.
  6. Of course there could be something pulling a current like a dodgy cell or connection that is loading enough to bring voltage down a tad and then be intermittent short that could cook the alternator? A current meter with a 'peak picker' would tell .
  7. Would need 6 to match my traction bank mmm? Circa 30k. May wait till mine are knackered in a decade or so. Maybe 2decades. Bugger it will be dead by then. Me not the batteries.
  8. Traction [2v cells] are proven to last decades if correctly maintained and have cycle rating in the thousand+ with very good DoD recovery. [Dod=depth of discharge] Next up are semi tractions. Newer materials [lithium etc] look promising but no real world duration due to being fairly new. ie not many 10-15 year old lithium cells around at the moment. Loads of forklift batteries still going strong though. DoD & Cycle rates need to be considered as well. If liveaboard and running down to max DoD daily a cheap leisure with a 300 cycle rating may well be goosed in a year!
  9. As an aside once you get it up & running it is quite usual to get spurious results if cable screen is tied to both ends [earth] If this occurs only earth down screen at one end. The same point for all screens & may or may not require isolating from ships earth. This removes earth loops. Had oodles of fun with this particular type of problem whilst DCS commissioning on several vessels and more than a few refineries.
  10. I got these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0076ZI7ZW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 Did some barb wire down hatch ok. Also several other jobs. All seems good with them Just remember to oil/grease up before and after so they don't rust up. Also got a couple of drain lift pry bars from a local shop for under a fiver. Great to lift the prop fouling out while keeping your paws dry/warm http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00M7WV05S?keywords=pry%20bars&qid=1444306638&ref_=sr_1_26&sr=8-26 Similar to fouth down in this shot.
  11. At least there is 20 miles+ gap, otherwise all those trapped in between might find themselves on restricted licences!;-}]

  13. Frank. Do the obvious first. Then test. Move on to the next. Your OP states the belts are loose. Tighten and test then move on if that isn't it. If you do several things at once you may well fix the problem but will have no real idea of the actual initial fault. Time spent now doing it logically while learning may well save time in the future.
  14. Most likely is belt slip. As the nights draw in you are probably using a bit more out of the batteries and this is highlighting . Tighten belts before wasting time measuring voltages etc. At least you are then starting from a good base point.
  15. Found easiest way for me is decant into a 'jif' type spray bottle. You can send a few squirts down the pan when flushing.
  16. A couple of years ago came down from All cannings to honey street and lost forward drive. Opened hatch to find what turned out to be a wig round the prop. Unfortunately there was also, of all things, some cauliflower floating in the water. In my [normal] befuddled state this appeared to be brain matter. Was a bit unwell........ Finally manned up and went in. After a period of time realised what it really was. Went to the Barge and got slaughtered!
  17. Spoke to Andy [ex Tipton] yesterday. Vessel now 'in the midlands'. So deffo gone. Coal boat have a second boat coming on line soon. Devizes base. Will ask how far up they are travelling when i see S&V.
  18. http://www.ukboatyard.com/index.php/coal-boat BATH-WOOTON RIVERS. From WR-on I don't think anything at the moment. So long pound covered

    Bad smell

Clothes Peg? No smells at all!
  20. Would be careful about dropping capacity. Once started it will need the same amount of re-charge whatever the size [near enough] However if you get in a situation where extended cranking is needed [say when clearing an air lock] it would be quite frustrating to exhaust you 'new small' battery before firing up.
  21. M20 engine in at moment. M21 engine in bits. Bike on back of boat as i type. Did your crane go alright?
  22. Had one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fonerange-Rugged-128-Waterproof-Shockproof/dp/B00F0MRM6I for about 3 yrs now. Bombproof. Downside only 3g & no 3 support. Sub £40 on web. Dual sim. Days of battery life. [sometimes a week] Use when cruising as only needed for calls. Move sim to me Galaxy for pub,surf,etc..
