  1. You turn the ignition off? So the instrument panel is off? What warning lights are showing?
  2. No you don't need to book, it wasn't locked when I went up there last year early in the morning. (5am)
  3. Your calorifier is full of air, that's all. A non return valve (check valve) in the cold entry pipe will stop the back syphoning of hot water into your cold supply.
  4. If you want to live on a boat because you want to live on a boat, you'll overcome any issues and enjoy yourself (I certainly have and do). If you want to live on a boat for any other reason, you will be miserable. I have a pet lizard (bought for me when I was a child and it refuses to pass from this mortal coil). Just me, although two of us lived on here for a while. Miss nothing really from living in bricks and mortar. One piece of advice? Find someone who really knows what they're talking about and ask their advice on how things work.
  5. Doesn't sound like an installation that'll work well at all if you want to move your boat. An allen bolt will seize, round off, shear or any combination of the above. The tried and tested chimney collar would be my personal preference.
  6. Personally I'd make a gasket out of neoprene strip. Can be bought in different widths and thicknesses.
  7. Battery bank size has little to do with your solar panels, what you need to do is a "power audit". Lots of info on the forum :-)
  8. Strange isn't it, mine is virtually what I was looking for, but when I walked in it was just "right" and I decided to buy it on the spot.

  10. Multimeter set to check continuity
  11. You won't get 70mm cable in those terminals. You can just about get 25mm2 in them.
  12. One lock of the audlem flight in particular, the lock ladder is incredibly shallow. Your foot will slip off it and you will sit down onto the boat and bruise your arse. Just sayin'.
  13. You're really going to upset other boaters if you start a suitcase generator up at 4am!
  14. Same here, no claims bonus on my second years insurance
  15. I would personally also drill holes into the cross members and fill them with hand held bottles of sprayfoam, otherwise you'll end up with cold stripes on the ceiling.

  17. Weaver It's just like boating on a very wide canal, very controlled flow with locks and nice places to moor.
  18. The only thing you can't tell is what the capacity of the battery is. So they may be fully charged and holding a charge, but instead of their original 120ah capacity, they may only be capable of providing 20ah. By the sound of it, it was a combination of both the cable run and batteries
  19. Mine neither. There is no current flow in the charger leads when the charger itself is switched off (verified with a DC clamp meter).
  20. I use MarineFlex too, but I bought a job lot when I started renovating the boat so I've got plenty to use
  21. I moored next to Desiree for 10 minutes whilst I got something from Aqueduct. I came back to find people looking at my boat and asking if it was for sale! The salesman was just going back to the office to find out if it was "new in". I made my escape pretty sharpish!
  22. I think that's one of the quietest Kelvins I've ever heard! I like it though, very rhythmical (but I'm not an engineer).
