  1. That's exactly how things went thanks for your comments. I was going to sell coal but as there is a fuel boat who provides a valuable service on this stretch I would rather support him as that is what we are about, providing a valuable service not taking the mick. 2. I look after my customers end of and that's how you run a business.I do charge for my time which is why I don't waste other people's time to the extent it appears this examiner has.
  3. Why would suspect that exactly? If a BSS examiner comes to my site and pisses off my customers with retentive behaviour I will raise issue with it. If they come to my site and offer a good service I will use them again and recommend them.
  4. I didn't book him for the BSS its not my boat its a customers boat I suppose we are all wrong down here are you are right then Dave!
  5. The thing that is most annoying is the boat failed on its breather the examiner owns a chandlery and didn't think to mention that he has the required parts on his shelf which he could bring with him when he charged another £20 to re test apon returning.Nope we won't be using that examiner again.
  6. It's a fixed fee of £125 for the job then to charge to get to the job is not on.If I go on site as a time served master carpenter I get a day rate I don't get paid for getting my ass in the van and getting to work. If people wish to play devils advocate that's fine but I don't accept travel costs for a fixed rate cost on top acceptable especially ten minutes round the corner in the local area. In response to MTB if I disagree with my dentists costs would you suggest I go and train as a dentist too lol ?
  7. My point is they are already being paid for their work surely in order to do that work regardless of qualification they need to arrive to provide the service so why expect to be paid to arrive unless it is outside of the area. The guy at Asda stacking the shelves is far more valuable to society than a BSS examiner no?
  8. I wonder how many minimum wage workers charge their employer travel fare so they can get to work! It baffles me why some people think they should be payed to arrive so " they" can earn a living. Surely if that's the case then the customer should be payed to "arrive" for providing the living.
  9. Another boater on our moorings was charged £20 for the BSS examiner to get in his car and drive from his office to our moorings which is less than a ten minute drive! If he took the boat to the BSS examiners marina he would have not been charged or given a £20 discount for making it convenient for the examiner to work! I'm not sure how other people feel about this and wondered if this is a commen practise?
  10. Very interesting but where would I put the gas bottle.Another thing that worries me is putting a generator and a gas bottle on the bank and preventing them getting booted into the canal. Cheers.
  11. The model number is 900021 ALS 80 amp
  12. Are these setups safe or is using the generator in the shore more advisable ?
  13. Good point but storing petrol worries me!Where do people store it on their boat?
  14. I am considering a generator setup on my narrowboat and with red diesel being easier to get on the canal than petrol wondered if anyone else uses a diesel generator aboard? I am considering having a metal generator box on the back end of the stern above the fender too and wondered if anyone has this kind of arrangement ? Cheers.
