I have replaced the room stat with a simple on/off switch, & use rad stats to control heat levels, as said earlier the boiler has internal stat to control water temp.
Did not state that it had to be in the house, but he insisted that "only properly trained fitters" could work on a boat but his list did not have any !, tho he did order a new part for me which i fitted myself.
When we tried to get the facia panel replaced on our brand new, unused Electrolux oven because the oven temperature markings were so faint, the engineer would not even look at the oven, as it was in the boat & not at the registered guarentee address in spite of the fact that the boat was 5 yards away at the end of the garden, quoting effin safety, "not insured mate to go onto a boat". So guarentee a worthless bit of paper !
All of the above, plus have a good chat to the lock keepers, and follow their advice they will not let you on to that stretch if it is at all iffy. Depending on the tide, it may be adviseable to have marine band radio (channel 74 & 9[i think] for the bridges) so that you can check headroom at the swing bridges as you approach, again the keeper at Naburn will advise, if no VHF then a mobile phone, charged & working is a must !
"Or the one at Middlewich junction, just after a low bridge and just before the junction for the Wardle canal (I nicknamed it "world's worst mooring")"
Well now, I think thats my house mooring you are refering to (next to Bridge 169 ?) which in fact & at great expence is actually totally off the line of the canal ! It was dug out of the garden by the previous house owner & fairly recently refurbished. So as its a lay by what is wrong with it ??

Have a look at the above link & work out how long from Salford to Barton, I have been on these trips & the bridges have to be swung for the ferry !
Have a word with Jim Taylor, the BW (or whatever) maintenance supervisor for your patch, a very helpfull & aproachable chap. (NB Empress when off duty)

Had the same problem there in April, diagnosed as damp cards, get them replaced not refunded or you will loose out ! Been advised to keep them in the leaves of a book, which keeps them dry.
Just wish I could remember which book !!
