  1. I do that if I hear a car beep beep I give a quick beep beep back to see if the car stops. Generally only on bridge 'oles where I can see no boats are approaching though.
  2. If an approaching boat wants to move over more than half a boats width I leave them to it but I will generally aim for passing as close to the other boat as I can especially if there are moored boats as well. Xxx
  3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  4. I generally decide if there is a boat following an approaching boat based on how many times they turn to look behind them, the more they look it seems the more chance there is someone close behind. On the opposite end of the scale someone said to me there was a boat behind them so I waited a few minutes then as no one appeared I continued on cautiously, I didn't see a boat for about 20 minutes so can only assume whoever was following them had moored up.
  5. Why is there a thread with no posts in it...?
  6. We are much the same, 6x110ah Numax batteries which are coming up to four years old. We have most lights on so we can see on an evening, we have a 12v fridge (used to have fridge\freezer), the inverter is on to power a DAB radio for 5 or 6 hours a day and Mrs-M uses her hairdryer daily. As the batteries are inaccessible they are sealed so fit and forget. I have a NASA BM2 which I only use to see what the voltage is and generally on a morning it is 12.6\12.7. The lowest it has ever been is 12.5 when we haven't boated for a day.
  7. Boing Boing seemed to satisfy most of the locals.
  8. From the users picture, looks like what was Juniors Albion.

    Rivets?

Yes it is very nice. We were moored behind him earlier in the year at Stourport.

    Rivets?

Sounds like that could be Michael Pinnock senior's RW Davis boat Alder.
  11. We moored against the pilings by the entrance to Crick marina a few weeks back, no problems getting right in. I'm not sure whether they were time restricted though as we were only stopping for the shop.
  12. A picture of Scorpio showing portholes in the cabin and engine 'ole.

    Rivets?

The rivets on old boats are externally barely visible due to years of wear. This is a way of identifying original riveted sections compared to newer replacements.

My take on it would be that most RW Davis boats are presented in a far more traditional manner than most Hudsons are in terms of paintwork and general appearance, plus RWD have a working boat inspired engine room and back cabin. Unlike Alan I actually like the recess between engine room and main cabin and generally I can spot an RWD or Barry Hawkins boat but see nowhere near the same number as I do Hudsons. Personally I am not a fan of Hudson lines but having moored on the Gloucester Sharpness for a couple of years the RWD lines have grown on me.
  15. Having spent the weekend stood on the towpath in Birmingham outside the Roundhouse I would say more cyclists went past with no consideration for pedestrians than the number that slowed to a safe speed. A ring of a bell to the majority seemed to make them think everybody would jump out of their way and they didn't have to slow down.
  16. Pity there aren't any pictures to see what she looks like.
  17. Don't get up in the morning, decide to walk to Willington marina for breakfast and leave your boat keys on the table not realising until you have walked all the way back to your boat. Some idiot did that a few weeks ago when they were moored before the road bridge at Willington.
  18. Lit it one night last week but then let it go out as it got too hot.
  19. Yes, I sometimes have an issue where my tiller goes hard over and then the boat stops moving forward. I probably need to get some tiller strings to hold it central.
  20. When going up in a lock putting the boat gently in forward gear as the gate opens gives time to step off, walk along and close the offside paddle whilst the boat gently moves out of the lock. Then step back on so only walking the length of the lock once.
  21. You could stop at the Bridge Inn at Branston. That will be about 1.5 hours.
