  1. Hi, I'm thinking of taking my boat over to Europe in a year or two and am looking for any useful sources of info. I'll have the boat taken over by lorry so don't need to worry about crossing the channel and would plan to live aboard in Europe for a few years.
  2. Needs to walk along the towpath on a frosty morning and see how many boat have doors and windows open to let the heat out.
  3. Here's the wiring diagram Engine Wiring Diagram.pdf

  5. Photo looks very like Calcutt Marina. As for waterway chaplains they can be a comfort to those who believe, while not bothering those who don't.
  6. When would you prefer he ran his engine - overnight ?
  7. You get the occasional know all. I recall getting shouted at by someone walking his dog as I'd left the lock gate open. I pointed out to him that the boat approaching the lock would prefer it open.
  8. An inverter shouldn't be drawing much current when there is no 240v load. At the risk of stating the obvious are you sure there is nothing connected you've forgotten, like a battery charger for instance. If not then I would suspect a fault in the inverter.
  9. Personally I wouldn't block the services even with the sign. It's not easy to clamber across a wet and slippy boat in icy conditions with a cassette in your hands.
  10. Hi, I'm in Skipton and could pop up and help you tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm busy today. pm me if you would like a hand.

  12. As mross said correct antifreeze should protect the engine and central heating. As your location is Caversham I'm assuming the river is the Thames in which case you might want to keep an eye on river levels and flows. These are available at the EA site.
  13. That will only show what the current is at 240v, it won't show the actual current drawn from the batteries at 12 volt. I fitted a Victron BVM which shows whats actually going into and out of the batteries. https://www.victronenergy.com/battery-monitors/bmv-700
  14. I'm currently cruising that area and would certainly recommend it. Saltaire and Skipton are interesting towns, the Bingley 5 and 3 rise locks are a must and the scenery between Gargrave and Foulridge is stunning.
  15. Nice to see some praise for CRT. I've always found them helpful.
  16. I would recommend getting a. competent boat yard to repair the gas locker, probably by welding in new steel where needed, and cutting the drain holes down to the level of the base.
  17. I think you'll be lucky to find one that lets you live aboard while in their dock.
  18. Selecting an area seems to show the correct detail on the CRT site. Seems to be the full list which has been corrupted.
  19. I have the same engine and it heats the water to piping hot after a couple of hours cruising.
  20. I'm content with 2.5% it's not excessive.
  21. But it isn't that simple. My LPWS4 recommends oils changes at 100 hrs while many others are 250. Surely the gearbox should have a standard interval regardless of engine type.
