  2. Yeah Bunny, how do we know your second name isn't BOILER and you're a former sexual plaything cast aside like the contents of a full cassette once he got bored of you and you're now seeking your revenge. Why should we tell you anything when Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail's lives may be at stake, we don't want our fellow boater coming home to the smell of roasting rabbit, bunny a la bain marie or roll mopsey. We have a code of silence on here and anyone found breaking it will find themselves swimming with the mattresses.
  3. As you're heading into Cheshire East the link below may collect it from you and it might well go to a good home (as did the spare sound insulation you gave me a while back did) free delivery on CWDF too K http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/waste_and_recycling/reduce_reuse_recycle/reuse_of_useful_items.aspx
  4. Just buy a belt the same spec but slightly shorter, it may be the wrong one was used in the past by mistake or in an emergency. At least check it's the right belt and you're not copying from a historic mistake when you've replaced it. The tension should be the correct tension, too tight will damage the bearings and may possibly make the alternator overheat. As suggested the belt spray is good but it doesn't work for that long. K
  5. Caravan shops, mobile home shops or shops in areas that don't have mains gas are where the best deals are to be found. Avoid anything that needs 240 volts unless you run the invertor all the time, clocks and some ignition systems need this so caravan/motorhome suppliers are good. K
  6. Is it a cruiser stern, is exposed to the weather or do you have a hood of some sort? Some things do getting wet some of the time better than others, generally like Daniel says resin ply is best if it's constantly exposed to the elements. K

  8. I was about t suggest that, filling it with sand is something builders used to do in houses when central heating took over from back boilers. K
  9. You should be able to get oak 2 inch square for under £10 a metre, so I guess it's a bout £30 job, seems a shame not do it while the engine's out. As OG says it does from the pictures look like it could be softwood, if it is then I'd certainly change it for hardwood. K

  11. Dehumidifier is the only way to go, if you can power an industrial blower you can power a dehumidifier. Meaco are the best but get the 12L or 20L both use about a third of the power of the DD8L and do the same job. Why the least energy efficient model in the range is also the most applauded is a mystery, but either way it will shift about 10 or more litres of moisture from the air every 24 hours. A dehumidifier will take the moisture out of everything in no time at all. K
  12. Possibly Olliebone has had gender reassignment , her profile does say she is female, still a lot can change in 6 years. K
  13. Strange the ad says it's built by "Mill Wharf BOat Co" but the boat index says it's a Liverpool Boats build, does that affect the value? Is 10 feet a widebeam or just a fat narrowboat, 12 feet to me is a widebeam. K Catch The Wind Built by Liverpool Boats in 2009 - Length : 17.37 metres ( 57 feet ) - Beam : 3.05 metres ( 10 feet ) - Draft : 0.61 metres ( 2 feet ). Metal hull Powered power of 55 HP. Registered with Canal & River Trust number 522182 as a Private Narrow Boat. ( Last updated on Thursday 23rd January 2014 ) Good point it's shrunk a foot since it was built
  14. They're in Aldi at the moment for £30, might be worth a punt! K
  15. It looks like they've made/have registered 39 boats http://canalplan.org.uk/boats/boats.php Their address according to their website is Bridgehouse Marina on the Lancaster canal http://www.brayzel-narrowboats.co.uk/contact.php I've seen a boat of theirs Hyggelig and it looked good, featured in Canalboat November 2014 http://www.canalboat.co.uk/canal-boats/boat_test_november_issue_2014_1_3838505 K
  16. If you bought a stock boat not a brokered one then I assume you've paid VAT on it, brokered boats are only liable for VAT on the brokerage fee the boat itself VAT free as you're buying it from a private seller via the broker. Stock boats are the company's property and as such are liable to VAT at 20% on the whole amount. K
  17. Charcoal works fine in my fire, it's not as good as coal but it burns steadly and gives off good heat, that aside I've just been in my local Aldi and they're selling 5kg bags of easy light charcoal briquettes for 29p, yes 29p for 5kgs. They had 5kg bags of lumpwood charcoal by the door for £1.39 which I thought was a bargain but 50kg of briquettes for less than 3 quid!!! I might go back for more 10 might not be enough. K
  18. "About one person out of twenty over the age of 65 develops Alzheimer's disease and less than one person in a thousand under the age of 65". K http://www.alzheimer-europe.org/Dementia/Alzheimer-s-disease/Who-is-affected-by-Alzheimer-s-disease
  19. It may be a "politically correct" term but given the large number of people with Alzheimer's in denial, sometimes aggressively or violently so, I'd prepare yourself for a possible "punch in the bracket" if you use it to the wrong person. K
  20. You could try Preston Brook marina, in Preston Brook near Runcorn. I was there yesterday and from the look of it half the resi moorings are empty and have been for weeks. They recently got permission to add more. You'd have to contact the Bridgewater Canal Company rather than the marina I believe. K http://www.bridgewatercanal.co.uk/contact/
  21. I agree, I'd hire a boat from somewhere like the link below then come on here and ask if anyone wants a free day out driving it for you, that'll get round all the issues as long as no money changes hands There's quite a few on here in the North West who might be interested. The advantage of a day boat is they usually have more/bigger windows. K http://karensdayboathire.co.uk/index.php/how-to-find-us
  22. Well they are going to putting some effort into attracting more boaters https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/news-and-views/news/campaign-launched-to-bring-narrowboats-to-manchester
  23. Like wanted says use a multitool, hopefully this link will work, that's half an hours work taking 30 years of anti slip paint off. K http://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/gallery/album_1015/gallery_13583_1015_272726.jpg
  24. Google "small computer fans" world's full of them apparently, for 2 way get a reverse polarity switch. Here's one costs a fiver from Maplins. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/thermaltake-92mm-high-performance-fan-zt86t K
