  1. My guess is that you are just in range of a vertical polarised mast and closer to a horizontally polarised mast, hence the improved reception. In more remote places where there is only a horizontally polarised mast, I get nothing with the antenna vertical, and a strong signal when horizontal (roughly at right angles to the mast). Of course when close to a vertically polarised mast it’s the other way around.
  2. Unless you get a really awkward one who starts banging on about note 3 from the chart……
  3. If the CC licence doubles then I doubt CRT care if CMers take a home mooring or not, as CRT will either get the extra money via the licence fee or from the mooring fee, either be having a CRT mooring or a marina where the marina pays crt for the connection to the canal. Once marinas fill up, CRT can up the connection charge.
  4. And don’t forget to include the bends/elbows etc as per note 2.
  5. I use those antennas as well on 3. The ‘problem’ is that 3 and probably others as well use horizontal polarisation on some of their masts. So there is no signal. However if you do temporarily mount them horizontally you will need to rotate to get the best signal - the antenna needs to be roughly at 90 degrees to the mast. At my mooring a vertical antenna has no reception most of the time, mounted horizontally the modem reports 50 to 75%. One day I will upgrade to a cross polarised omni antenna…….
  6. If the inverter is powered from the engine start battery if may have been intended to only use the inverter with the engine running. Also need to ensure total power supplied to the inverter is less than the alternator output or the starter battery will be too discharged to start the engine. Not a design I would be happy with
  7. Not had mine either, so had a look on their web site and it says to phone if “have not received an invitation to take part in the consultation by Friday 24 February” so I guess no point calling just yet.
  8. I doubt they will ban stoves as the government admits they are needed by a significant number in rural areas, where emissions aren’t a problem. What I think will happen is it will become forbidden for a dwelling/boat to emit any smoke from a stove in designated (ie urban) areas. As an aside I did read recently (I forget where) that a low level of arsenic particles are being detected in urban air. Not yet at levels to cause health issues. Probably due to burning treated wood - pallets, packing boxes, old fencing, furniture etc. However following the principle of no arsenic is best, this will further the pressure on councils from canal side houses to put rules in place to control ’dirty’ boats.
  9. I suppose he could claim to be saving £500k per month if he had wanted a 4 bed house in Mayfair.
  10. I would use the angle grinder. I would use either a wire brush or an abrasive pad which is more ‘gentle’ than a flap disc and less likely to damage the steel surface. https://www.toolstation.com/abracs-poly-abrasive-disc/p22693
  11. For 6 volt batteries assume the individual batteries above are each two 6volt batteries in series.
  12. Agree about the particulates but burning diesel also produces NOx which is not good either. In a rural area with a flue that doesn’t leak I don’t see burning solid fuel/diesel as a problem, but in urban areas where boat chimneys are on a level with ground floor windows it’s only a matter time before burning fuel in a stationary boat is banned from a low chimney/exhaust.
  13. And if it’s in good condition, sell it on eBay for a few hundred quid.
  14. You can get vinyl cut stencils which give a painted finish. One bit of advice I was given was after applying the stencil very lightly spray some paint - just a dusting - to give a faint image of the letters, then remove the stencil. Then paint. The edges are now a bit wobbly to give the authentic hand painted look. Of course if you are unable to paint along a line, then leave the stencil in place, but it will result in a very clean straight edge to your letters. Added - I did leave the stencil in place as the advice given was after I had painted. Next time I will give it a go.
  15. A lot of tablets don’t have GPS. If you tether the tablet to a smart phone it might pick up the location from that.
  16. I suspect the errors are intended as it is intended to give an air of ‘Real, down-to-earth’ authentic honesty. Hopefully the intended audience can relate to, and more importantly will click on. Remember that ‘clicks = money’
  17. I believe you can with their special software, that said, too high or too low might damage the unit, so best wait for advice from someone that knows before fiddling with it.
  18. The rating plate on your gas appliances probably state the design pressure (for propane either 37mbar or 30mbar) and the consumption per hour in g/h or kg/h. Assume all appliances are on at the same time to give the total gas consumption.
  19. Going by the amount of noise a ‘silent’ generator makes, this gives manufacturer plenty of wriggle room if you complain it buzzes a bit.
  20. Maybe a good case for buying the marine regulator, as in your case if the internal pipe work had failed - the system is now at bottle pressure - there would be a lot a gas in the boat very quickly.
  21. If you really want a marine regulator here is a selection. https://www.gasproducts.co.uk/gas-regulators/marine-gas-regulators.html A marine regulator is a bit different to a ‘normal’ regulator as it has a boat system over pressure release port should the regulator fail.
  22. Just because someone believes 100% that something is ok, it does not mean they are correct, so checking is wise, also if they are correct they may wish to check from time to time to prove they are indeed correct to those that wish to question their claim.
  23. I know which I chose as well, but sadly some will chose whoever tells them what they want to hear. Follow the regs, they are there for a reason
