  1. I wondered how long it would be before you came up with this suggestion.?

  4. Would recommend Ed Bowden 07941zero4eight8four7. I think he lives near Marsworth. Slim
  5. Since I gave up offshore and stuck to canals I seem to have misplaced my sextant, parallel ruler, tide tables and dare I say it Decca/GPS. Using my trusty Nickolsons those nice BW/CRT people have put numbers on the vast majority of bridges which allow me to plot my position to within inches. And it's all done without electrickery! Slim
  6. I paid £35.50 @ Wigrams Turn about 10 days ago. More significantly why would Patio Gas cost £12 more? Shades of screw the consumer?
  7. Thanks for the replies I'll work through the suggestions tomorrow and feed back when I next get a connection. Frank
  8. I once claimed against their lifetime guarantee.(split 13mm socket, it may have been 1/2 inch). The entire store lookeed at me as if I'd grown horns.Took about an hour of argueing before I got a replacement. It had become a matter of principle.
  9. Was that the one down a track and over some kind of a stream/river? Best breakers in West London
  10. HMS Warrior, less than 2 miles from home!! As for the 3 gallons or a quid it was 4 gallons and 4 shots with coppers change from a quid (1965-66)
  11. Didn't know where to post this so please move as appropriate. My Samsung tablet only has 16 gb memory. It has the facility to accept an SD card and I installed a 32gb card long ago. My problem is that the tablet memory is almost full and I don't know how to save to the SD card. The only things I hve managed to save on the card are about 6 photos and I don't have aclue how I did that. What I want to do mostly is save I Player audio and video. I appreciate that they will have a limited life as dictated by the BBC. I can save to the tablets internal memory but not the external. Can anyone help (in Janet & John ) terms. It may be that what I want to do is not possible Many thanks Frank A Luddite.
  12. Virtually all my boating is solo. Widowed many years ago I've become used to my own company. Being hard of hearing makes casual conversations difficult unless I ve got my aids in. The upside is that I have a very quiet engine.? I've got a TV with DVD but no aerial. Buried in the shed is an unused dish. Hundreds of books and two tablets (I hate the I Pad preferring Android). My local library offers Borrowbox so I can download both e books and e audio. Most pubs now offer WiFi so thats my excuse going to them. Unfortunatly with most canalside pubs focusing on food finding somewhere to sit after about 6 pm is difficult. They don't like solo diners either. I could drone on and on but to answer the OP (I think) I don't get lonely but 3-4 weeks is my max
  13. Now that the topic has gone completly off course the thing that really annoys me is when a documentry on say a Spitfire says that it did '502 kilometres an hour"
  14. My house boiler is designed to energise the pump once a day (not sure if the boiler fires up) It's to prevent the pump from seizing
  15. So, the pump is 2 bar and the prv is 3 bar . Where does the white pipe out of the prv go? If the pipe leads into bilge is thre any water coming ot of it? If yes then it,s the prv. If no then you've got a leak. If it,s the prv try rotating it , twist the red cap, afew times. It may clear the problem . If not replace it. If it isn't the prv the fun starts finding the leak
  16. Yes, Black Sheep (good) Landlord (not for me ) widely available in the Sarf as well as Old Hookey, Broadside and many (can't remember) more. Before you say it, yes, we (southerners) have some pretty naff ones as well. Some smell like a tarts boudour (spelling). (I'm told)
  17. Yes, go 'norf' for lower tempertures, more rain and naff beer. ???? Sorry but I'm getting p****d off with all the overt anti south jokes. (AND I was happily married to a Lancashire girl)
  18. Last mortgage, 1984, 13% variable over 25 years???
  19. Damp! The deckhead of my boat ois lined with oak faced ply. Over the years the ply has stained in three 10 x 40 mm patches. Obviously the oak reacting to moisture. No great shakes in the order of things. Unfortunatly it's immediatly above my bunk and I wake up to it every morning. ?
  20. I was told in absolute confidence some years ago so I cannot say. Others may ķnow as well.
  21. I've been meaning to ask this for months and months ( and no, I don't want to get into a debate.) Why don't you re-calibrate the inaccurate ones using your wizzo ones as a datum?
  22. I remain unconvinced about the Merc v BMW point. Frank Volvo driver. ( No trilby, no pipe and keeping quiet about the slippers. )
