  1. But you should hear the pump run. Fuse or knackered pump. To the OP. Welcome to the world of an ever open wallet ?
  2. I had a 2 burner Origo hob on my first coastal yacht. It was a pain in the ####. Low heat output, difficult to control (as I remember), always running dry and smelly to fill. My girlfriend, later wife, taught me a few new words when she tried to cook on it. Gas every time. Mind you it took me years to forget the ritual of shouting "gas on" or "gas off" every time the gas cooker was lit.
  3. I would very much doubt it. In my house I have solid oak flooring throughout the ground floor (excluding the kitchen.) It was lacqeured from new. Apart from one small patch the coating is still sound. I have the same flooring in the saloon of my boat. The only wear is directly under the chair I normally sit in and was caused by grit getting under the chair feet ddigging into the wood. Both floors have been down for at least 10 years. Cleaning is simply a matter of a quick hoover followed by mopping with whatever household cleaner is to hand. I just don't see any varnish having lasted as well. The boat is a NB
  4. You miss the point. It only took one. And to suggest I checked everyone is to only prove the barrackroom lawyer mentality
  5. So I turn up and it's full with overstayers. This was intended as a reply to Mike. Rules are rules, it's called Society
  6. Sorry but people are missing the message. " This is a popular mooring so you are welcome to stop for 2 days then move on to allow others to enjoy the amenities" . Whats difficult to understand?. To many barrackroom lawyers.
  7. Saved me having to say the same again. Too many people worry about their 'rights' not the concept of good manners. Frank (aka an old f**t)
  8. An accumulater. A device for smoothing out water flow spurts from water pump. So, what is my prize ? Damn, beaten to it
  9. Any number of strap wrenches available on E bay or Amazon. If you could get in to use a screwdriver a strap wrench with a 1/2" socket drive will fit assuming you can get some kind of a drive {or spanner) onto the socket part. Just looked on E Bay , first page I looked at, half way down, a Draper branded one for just over a fiver. It's click and collect if that helps. I think it's the one I bought recently. Sorry I don't know how to insert a link. Any time I've tried it I mess it up.
  10. I normally single hand so appreciate fully the pleasure of finding locks in one's favour. Even more pleasant is the sight, at about 200 yards, of gates gently gliding open and the bows of a boat appearing. For some inexplicable they always seem to take an absolute age to exit. Kendorr may face 11 ? lock free miles but the stretch between Fenny Compton to Marsdon Doles is really slow, really shallow. I came the other way a few days ago and felt like a farmer ploughing his field rather than a boater. Managed to average about 2.1 mph between Marsdon and Fenny.
  11. Came down from Napton to Cropredy Marina 48 hours ago. Space below Claydon flight. One space above Varneys lock. Nothing between Varneys and Broadmoor. Nothing between Broadmoor and entrance to Cropredy Marina. There was bank but as I recall very shallow and you would be on mooring pins Frank As for the shop at Fenny I bought some narn bread there several years ago. It was DISGUSTING. Mind you the beer there earlier this week wasn't much better and the attitude of the staff, well...………………………...
  12. I've got the First Mate's Guide series of books on board. They're a bit old now so a little out of date. I don't know if they are still available but somehow doubt it. They give all the facilities, shops, POs, doctors, dentists, vets etc together with bus stops, routes, short cuts and emergency phone numbers. The one bit of information they're light on is pubs. Frank
  13. Why not take Alan's idea and turn it into a TV appeal on daytime tellie. It could run after the domnkey appeal and before the offer for 50+ life insurance. You could get that nice June to present it. God, I remember thèm so they must work.
  14. I saw someone walking down the towpath at Fenny Compton with a strimmer iin her hands.
  15. Just asking but why did you want to know? Back in the 1990s I considered fitting the KD 36 but opted for a BMC 1.8. Around the same time a friend bought a boat fitted with a KD26. Absollutly fine until he found himself needing spare parts. By then the importer had ceased trading. I remember driving 150 miles to some modified BMC push rods. They got him out of trouble but sourcing core parts became increasingly difficult. I don't know the present position.
  16. Never have I read a series of comments with which I have agreed more. Arthur captured most of my views and Nightwatch's coments regarding the life expectancy of the network reflect mine. I do not live on my boat but spend a fair amount of time on it. A 'refugee' from Rickmansworth area I had intended to return there as time went by. That is no longer realistic as the area is now full of CMs, bridge hoppers, aircraft carriers, sorry, wide beams etc. To counter any 'where's your proof' merchants I ĺive there and walk the towpaths . There that's my rant over Frank
  17. Thanks. What I meant was that I had no worries. Nearer the time I'll give the examiner a call and see what he wants. What are the odds that it will be raining on the day?
  18. Last week a a cyclist went past me on the towpath uttering words along the lines of'get out of the way'. It made me aware that I can't remember when I last heard a bell being rung. Since then I've made a point of ĺooking as to how many bikes are so equipped. Answer ' very few. Is it still a requirement that a bike has an audible warning device? My car would fail an MOT if it didn't have one.
  19. Many thanks. Had the bottles out a couple of months ago so the floors ok. Only soft things in there at present apart from BBQ . The load deck of the car is fairly clear and I pumped the tyres up last week?
  20. Came up to the boat to move it to another mooring and do a final checkout prior to a BSS examination in a couple of weeks time. Being super efficent ? I printed out the latest guidance in full only to leave it at home. I've only got my tablet with me and to look up the full guidance would be a real faff. Can anyone highlight any significant changes in the past 4 years other than the carbon monoxide detectors.(I've got 3 new ones). I've had the boat for over 20 years a nd it's always passed without issue. There have been no significant changes since it's last cert was issued. I'm only looking for any changes to be highlighted. If anyone has any questions I'll be 'off air' until this evening. Many thanks Frank.
  21. Again non boat but toughened glass. Some years ago we had a gas hob with a framed toughened glass top. That shattered twice over the life of the hob. Both times in the middle of the night. Satisfied that a burner had not been left on. Taps off, lid had cutout valve and second time checked for heat wthin a couple of minutes. Significantly the glass did not stay intact, it went everywhere
  22. Anyone who's sailed will recognise this:- Either hanging onto a back shroud (clipped on) or leaning against a lee main shroud with the jib acting as a safety net. Now for all the H & S cries.? And yes I do know of OFS and the US Coastguard ?
  23. I know that feeling ?
