  1. This forum has got to be, single handedly, the best method of stopping people from buying a boat. I am struggling to think of a bigger on-line gathering of misery-guts sorts. No, cant think of one. Some brilliant helpful people also but why the need (by a significant number) to constantly troll the board and be petty and demeaning? I think a few people need to get some exercise, or possibly a good shag, or possibly both. Its nice to be nice you know. So glad I found this place after purchasing a boat otherwise I probably would have settled for a camper van..

  2. But you can still vote a positive for yourself, and some people seem to do it almost every time they post!

  3. David is it because I am getting older but when it comes to matters concerning the new charity I find myself agreeing with you. I see nothing wrong with the new name or logo. Some people are just anti anything to do with new charity and sometimes get the feeling that all they want is for it to fail. I am a boater and want the new new charity to succeed and will judge the new venture by what happens in the future not on a name or logo. The knockers can carry on with all the negative stuff but until such time as I am proved wrong I will continue to support the new charity. Oh have a greenie

  4. I think the designers, Pentagram, are a bit beyond producing signs! You could always read the Trustees report, here. Some extracts:

  6. Very likely -- but even so this is a poor, poor name. It's semi-literate for starters. "Canal and river" - did they just choose the singular nouns because there's already a magazine using the plurals? People are already mis-writing it as "Canal and Rivers Trust". And what does it mean? No mention of being concerned with navigation (even a boat rather than or as well as a swan would have hinted at that), no mention of being English. Thank god it didn't cost them anything. And who's betting that the costly exercise in re-signing begins as soon as a costly contractor wins the honeypot deal.

  7. I think it's just fine and I can't see the problem with abreviating it to CaRT, in fact for promotional purposes it works because it's easily remembered and trips off the tongue. It couldn't contain the words British Waterways because that will be another organisation altogether and because it would lead to confusion when trying to promote the new Trust. To ''The man in the street'', if he's ever heard of it, British Waterways is probably regarded as something to do with rich people playing with boats. If the new charity is to stand any chance of getting support from sources other than boaters and anglers, it needs to show that it's different to what came before. Yes, there is a cost but in the long run, hopefully, it will prove to be money well spent. Keith

  8. They were, of course, on a hiding to nothing. No matter what they did about name and logo, there would have been a baying mob ready to condemn them. Whether to complain about wasteful rebranding or to complain that the new organisation was indistinguishable from the old, a mob with pitchforks was ready and waiting. Personally, I find the new logo and brand uninspired, but I don't think that it actually matters, and I'm pleased that the rebranding will be low cost; The logo is actually not too different, which means that there need be no rush to rebadge. Old and new can co-exist without anybody getting upset about it, The colour scheme remains the same, and presumably the chequerboard signage will be unchanged, meaning that many signs with no logos will need no rebranding. There is a stated intention to update signage with kits If you intend to give up boating over a name and logo, you were probably looking for an excuse anyway.

  9. Utter shit. The name is shit. The logo is shit. These tossers couldnt even bring themselves to acknowledge they run a navigation. Until they do they will not see a single penny of my hard earned cash. Anyone want to buy a boat?

  15. I wonder if this is a way of you establishing your elevated position in the pecking order, or just a plain old fashioned attempt at bullying.

  16. It must be frustrating, seeing people not remedy their easily solvable weaknesses when you know there is no cure for your own. (edited for spelling)

  17. This forum is extraordinary!! It seems full of unnecesary hostility. Virtually every thread decends into squabbling and back biting with the overriding tone being one of condescention. The OP seemed to me to be almost thinking aloud. He didn't know if, nor suggest that his proposal was reasonable, he was simply putting it out there as a possible way of spending the summers on our canal system. He recognised that he was expecting to use the boat in the prime season and his thoughts on financing two thirds of the purchase for one third of the use seems like a reasonable point to open negotiations to me. Nothing in his post deserved scorn.........Be nice
