Teapots?

Featured Replies

#1

I've started noticing recently that every so often I see a boat with a teapot on the roof, usually near the front doors or rear hatch. The ones I've seen look look like they have been put there on purpose rather than just put down and forgotten about.

I've just asked a guy moored by me if he knows why people do it and he says that it is a sign that the occupants of the boat are swingers and it is a secret sign to other swingers.

Can anyone confirm this?

I was told when I was younger that if people had those huge ornamental butterflies mounted on the outside walls of their house that swingers lived there, so I guess this teapot business is something similar.

I thought it was to signify a female was onboard.

It signifies something, correct, but it is not for me to say what it is. I know because I am in a priveleged position

What it isn't...is what you say it might be in your last sentence - and what the guy moored by you says it is

I sincerely hope not, because both our boats regularly sport this "code", and AFAIK we are not "swingers", (or at least I have not been notified that we are).

However, I can't even say I know exactly what they mean, but can't say, as I'm already facing far too many of that kind of accusations!

Let's see how you get on now!

Surely it signifies the boater knows how to make tea correctly...

It does signify something but that is only known to the people who know............in other words if I tell you I will have to silence you............just admire the teapots and be done :)

Not quite sure I know what you meant - but you prompted me to hae a close look at what I wrote and I have gone back to add what might be a crucial full stop.

Does it make more sense now?

I think if you read the last couple of pages of the 3 locks thread you will understand.

Boat 2 moorings away has a teapot on their roof- I did wonder why his teapot was on the roof- and now I am intrigued- C'mon- please tell

As for swingers- I thought pampas grass in your front garden was the code- However our last neighbours were swingers but they didn't have pampas grassbiggrin.png

If I put a teapot on my roof- will something happen????

I know too

I don't think your pot will help you Albion - and no size does not matter

I've got a big blue enamel teapot on my roof - I use it to store bags of dog poo when we are out cruising and there are no dog poo bins around (there aren't many poo bins on the Lee and Stort).

How can so many people know- but Mr Google has no idea. I thought he knew everythingbiggrin.png

Surely there is a harmless clue that can be given

Will I be embarassed if I ask my neighbour 2 boats along why he has a teapot on his roof?

edited to add- Bizarrely- His is upside down- Don't tell me that has a further meaning

- Edited to add:_Mr Google does know- just found it. Isn't it drawing attention and a "safety risk"?

I am worried now- my neighbour with a teapot is a bloke
