Do we know why it was cleaned out? Seems like a lot of work gone to waste if it ended up bricked off and filled in.

Must have been in the 70s. I remember the arm being bricked up but didn't see inside. There was no view point from on top of the bridge and not much across the cut from the opposite site.

Pretty good one though considering the amount of polluted material it must have held.

Most leases have a delapidation clause meaning you have to put the property back into the condition it was in when you took it on. If you don't do it then the landlord invents a ridiculouly high figure for doing it for you. This leads to the absurdity of all the tenant's "improvements" like electrics and mezzanine floors being ripped out only to be reinstated by the next tenant!
