luctor et emergo
heigh-ho... What colour smoke? Richard Light blueish-grayish. Fair bit when cold, fainter once warmed up.

luctor et emergo
I know. My main problem is wether or not to pull a smooth running engine apart, to adres the problem, or to 'leave well alone'. I don't know wether it is a leaking valve stem or piston ring(s). RLWP
Let's face it, once you take a spanner to an engine, it's a few hundred quid Change the oil Richard
bizzard
Slight bluey grey exhaust is normal for these engines. There are internal crankcase breather tubes under the valve covers which connect with the inlet ports to suck out crankcase fumes and excess pressure. Its also a sign that your engine is possibly not under enough load. How much oil does it use. The head gaskets would also be different as the SR's bore diameter is 3'' against the ST's 3.75''. Chris-B
As Bizzard said gaskets are different between SR and ST we normally have good stock of both sets along with rings etc Give me a ring and you will get your CWDF discount....... luctor et emergo
The lack of load may be a point, -'ll give her a good workout the next two days on the river, and will report back...
Philfreeshifei
I have an SR3 and I need a gearbox. I have seen an LH 150 on Ebay and am thinking of buying. Can anyone tell me how I can verify it's definitely the right one? Are there lots of different types of SR3? Are there lots of different types of LH150? Thanks a lot. Liam
Yes the LH150 is the hydraulic box and lots are matched to Lister SR/ST's. There is also an option for the LM100 gearbox (manual).
Tony Brooks
But you do not want just the box, you also need to ensure that it is supplied with the drive that (from distant memory) bolts to the flywheel. Does you existing box have a reduction box hanging off the end? If so does the "new" one and do the ratios match or is the ratio suitable for your propeller? john.k
There is a large circular adaptor with air flow holes needed to mount to a Lister flywheel housing .........these are used for any close coupled engine, such as gensets and dumpers. If you dont have this on your motor, make sure you can find one ,unless the box has one.........edit...........I wonder if its a water cooled SR3.........they are pretty rare, but seen ocassionally?......or am I dreaming.....maybe its Petters that are sometimes water cooled.....seen a few of them in boats...PH3W..? The adapter is specific to the gearbox - the LM100 one won't work on an LH150 And you need the input shaft that bolts onto the flywheel - it must be the right one for an LH150 and it MUST be the correct one for the engine. The SR and ST input shafts are different Richard
john.k
If you go back 7 years here, there is a SR4 with a gearbox remotely mounted on steel engine bearers............with no apparent cross bracing..............no housing needed, provided the alignment is OK ,and in this instance ,a large flexible drive seems to be used to couple the units and to allow for misalignments....So ,the lack of a housing will not discourage or delay a determined boatie..................You might also note, there is no measure taken to stop recirculation of heated air,and I would expect the engine to overheat in a situation needing full power, such as running a bar......which is a spot where you dont want to lose power .
