Google Streetview goes nationwide.

I note that Google Streetview has massively increased its coverage (of roads, not canals directly, unfortunately). There are lots of fortuitous canal shots in there though: I give you this one of Paul, the lock-keeper at Salter's Lode. There's no boat in view, but the shot towards Well creek shows water starting to flow and the tide in the Ouse is high so I suspect he's letting water from the tide in to top-up the creek.

Streetview clicky.

I love the way that the blurred bridge parapet makes it look as though his green hut is underwater (best seen if you pan round to the right a little bit)

Excellent views of Norbury Junction - but no sign of "Starcross" unfortunately.

Ah yes, I clearly remember the blurred face.

It wasn't blurred until you hit the alcohol!

I prefer to call it soft focus....suits me, don't you think?

Anyone else been captured?

Just read in Waterways World about 'Google on the cut' - but the image alongside showing the Google Cam on top of a narrow boat is a bad Photoshop mock-up. Anyone else seen it? They said that any owners who don't want their boats to be named can ask to have them blurred out.

Edited to include Fradley Junction

Not a canal but a disappearing ice-cream van on top of the Bwlch, overlooking the Rhondda in South Wales.
