  1. I was hoping for a temporary fix but I doubt that getting the door into a position to be watertight will be easy.
  2. Very annoying as we started a week from gayton today. I was planning on going Warwick way...At Stoke B wondering whether to go back north tomorrow on the off chance of it being fixed tomorrow....
  3. No stoppage when we came through last Saturday pm from Droitwich to the Severn. There's work going on on the offside but no closure of the locks.
  4. Moorings above Hawford locks would be beneficial for overnighting before joining or coming off the Severn. And for visiting themug.co.uk in Claines :-)
  5. That's what I would like - somewhere before joining the Severn. Paul, were you close to the caravan park I can see on the map http://binged.it/1iANjnA
  6. Thanks everyone. My idea was to find somewhere to overnight before heading up to stourport, having started at Droitwich Spa marina round lunchtime. If under the bypass is best so be it. Shame there's nothing else before the Severn.
  7. Ok. Where's the nearest place to Hawford jn on the Severn to moor?
  8. Alongside the lock landing. Wouldn't dare moor on the landing ;-)
  9. Really? That's a shame. How about mooring alongside the lock bollards?
  10. www.themug.co.uk in Claines looks like a top pub to visit - as does the church :-) Does anyone know if its possible to moor and then get access from either of the Hawford locks, or from around the A449 bridge, to walk up to Claines? looking on Google streetview and OS maps via bing.com/maps I can't make out if its possible to gain access to Hawford Lock Lane. Any local advice would be lovely. Mike
  11. When, where and on what boat was the first engine installed? Did horses ever pull 2 boats a la motor and butty?
  12. Reading Hugh McKnight's Shell book of inland waterways he quotes an 1880 tour of the Grand Union mentioning the Black Boat. Anyone know what its called now?
  13. Barge inn at honey street and there's one at the bottom of Caen hill - by the 3 magpies. Stayed at the barge inn a few times, its like a festival there every weekend through the summer. The one at the 3 magpies looked ok as well.

  19. We went there last year 3 times. There seemed to be a festival happening in the campsite on all 3 occasions!! We camped twice, the 2nd time after our week on our club boat, having visited Honey Street on our trip earlier that week. The weekend after our week on Savoy Hill coincided with the Barge Inn's 200th anniversary party. http://www.the-barge-inn.com/bicentennial.php I remember having a piece of that cake!! 'Twas wonderful We must go back soon and check to see if the renovations to the old barn and toilet block have been done. They were waiting until the swallows left last autumn before starting work. Beer and food was excellent on all 3 occasions we went and loved the vibe of the place. Mike

  21. When I learnt to drive lorries it took me a while to get used to the slowness and also the space needed by an artic. Lucky that was while I was learning back in 1996 on the old Wembley stadium car park!!!! Thank you Wallis School of Transport Since then whenever I've given a lift to friends in the cab of rigids, but esp in artics, they've always expressed amazement as to how different the road looks, how you can't try to outrun traffic lights changing to red and how cutting-in in front of a lorry can halve its stopping distance..... I've always thought that an hour or two as a passenger in the cab of a lorry would benefit every car driver and should be a compulsory part of the driving test. As for driving after being on a boat for a few weeks I always try to ease myself back into what seems a hectic and dangerous way to travel!!
