I'm surprised the IWA mentions buses as a means of getting to Autherley.

"The Festival will help to raise the profile of the Black Country and attract tourism" says the IWA

Short sightedness indeed especially when they cant even bring themselves to mention the splendid walk down the historic Wolverhampton flight (right on the doorstep of Wolverhampton station) to Aldersley and Autherley

Nope - we're not going and we've sort of decided not to attempt to go boating from Market Drayton a week or two either side. Given that Wheaton Aston clogs up solid on an Easter weekend and we spent over 4 hours on Audlem on a Monday in September I hate to think what the queues are going to be like.

It's a hell of a long walk especially if you intend walking around the site.

We're thinking of going

Does anyone know what sort of activities there will be for kids under 10 years?

I can see on the web-site a list of workshops for adults but no lists of anything for the kids

Some people like walking. First point - its much further walking by road than it is by walking by canal to Autherley. Its confusing walking to Autherley by road.

Second Point - People have to walk the short distance to Wolves bus station, then walk from the bus stop in Ryefield at the rally end, and thats a quarter of the canal walking distance done already.

Third Point - There's the faffing about waiting for buses. On Sat its every 10 mins, but on the Sunday the bus service is half hourly, so if you miss a bus might as well walk.

Another issue is that by walking there people have already walked half of the moored boats on the site. So in total its actually less effort to walk to/from the station.

People should be able to get the bus back if they wish, but lets not forget about promoting the canal and if everyone goes by bus they might as well promote Wolverhampton's ring road as a prime example of Black Country architecture!

Of course those who dont want to walk, can't very well walk, or cannot walk the full distance, should be able to use the bus, especially if they have a National Bus Pass.
