Marple services

Hi.

 

We are following a couple vlogs on their narrowboat & narrowboat cafe. The latest episode was stopping at Marple. They said there was no services there! Is this correct?

 

We left the High Peak and Macclesfield Canal in May 2022. In May 2022 I am sure there was a water point, alsan and toilet, waste bins at Marple junction facing 48 hour moorings.

Have they been removed?

Has the land been sold for housing ?

There are currently no services at Marple due to construction on the site. A new service block is part of that.

Hopefully the water pressure will be greatly improved.

Apparently so:

"Whilst the building of the new Marple Service Block has commenced onsite, there has been a delay on the third-party development as advised last year.

An alternative skip is located on the wharf by Bridge 15B, just north of Lock 1 on the Marple Flight.

An update on progress will be provided in June 2023."

Not very convenient unless you're going down the flight though.

Is this on towpath side or non towpath?

Non towpath I believe is private mooring at the turning point!

There is a water tap where the old services were at the very end of the Macclesfield. We used it today and the pressure was loads better than it used to be. Didn’t see any bins in the area and heaven knows what cassette toileters are supposed to do?!? With bridge 24 being blocked, it’s a long way back to the Bosley services 🤷‍♂️

Update on 30/06/2023:

 

Work is progressing well for the Customer Service Facilities at Marple, the structure of the building is nearing completion, and our developer is currently finalising their programme for completing the internal fixtures.

Further discussions are taking place to look at access to the services to allow boaters to access the facilities before the housing development is completed.

In the meantime, an alternative skip is located on the wharf by Bridge 15B, just north of Lock 1 on the Marple Flight.

An update on progress will be provided in August.
