That's about as helpful to the OP as offering to make them a cup of tea in a chocolate tea pot.

It has saved him a lot of work not doing all the stuff that the others have suggested.

... In addition, the reception is more stable in response to boat movements if it is well aligned and doing that, just based on seeing a picture on screen, is quite difficult.

All the sat receivers and sat TV’s I’ve seen, have a menu page somewhere that shows the signal strength and quality, which is all you need to perfect the aim of the dish.

Trouble is, again you are out in the rain while someone is shouting 70, 75, 77. 50 you've gone past it. Also the readout normally lags a little bit.

Only if you can see the screen from the dish

Yes that’s true. We can.

We can see the tv from the dish-setting area. But anyway, if it’s raining and dish needs to be set up, we watch tv via the internet. Much drier.

All this fuss about setting up a dish - it's easy with a good quality sat / freeview finder those from Fringe as the best. Around £25+ on ebay. These are also good for terrestrial TV when you have to moor in the trees.

For satellite, rather than using a cheap Sky type dish consider a flat panel antenna - they're easier to store than a a dish with a sticky-out-bit-at-the-front.
