Muirshearlich Caledonian Canal

We ended up spending a lot longer than expected at the foot of Neptunes Staircase in 2017. The weather turned for the worse and we spent three days on the pontoon mooring at the foot of the stairs.

Scottish Canals were very good about it. Our 7 day visitors licence (that we should have paid for but they gave us for free when we entered the canal at Inverness) ran out and they let us have another few days free of charge due to being weather bound.

We visited again in 2021 with the van this time. Not much had changed since we had visited by boat.

It will soon be burnt down, vandalised to the ground and then the developers will be able to do what they want with the site

Sadly yes, I think someone had a good go at it not long ago,

the rest of the site shows signs of a fire,

it happened a few months back, I think early winter wasn’t it?

it was in the news

There was someone with a fire going in the building behind it when we came down about a month ago

Yesterday, 2024.

M42 arm, just past Alvechurch. No space to moor anywhere near the Weighbridge or the Crown, and rain stopped play so we couldn't even get to the Hopwood, so it was wine on the boat instead.

Lift bridge which seems to have multiple names

Locomotive bridge on the control panel

Quay Road bridge on the sign

Turnbridge Lift bridge on Canalplan
