  1. It looks like a Fernie whatever the ad says and they look quite good actually and go through the water very well. Shame it's never moved far enough to get a photo of the front end.
  2. Peter, give James a ring ( yesterdays post) and he can talk you through it.
  3. You would be far better served to start fighting the Provisional IWA from your pair-of-boats-castle. They would like a dentists root and branch clean out along with an annual shut down of 6 months, triple fees for widebeams and no moorings when the senior IWA committee members want to moor outside a pub on August Bank Holiday weekend. The fact that they have just appointed Ivor Caplan, the government have appointed a new Waterways Minister who quotes IWA stuff in his welcome brief, and the Waterways Ombudsman is paid by CRT should be ringing alarm bells somewhere soon.
  4. I do like this advert....... BOAT FOR SALE: Name: DOWN THE HATCH 70ft 2in x 13ft 6in (reported) wide beam cruiser narrowboat for sale Selling to buy a narrowboat. Cruising, G U Canal - £158,000 http://ebtk.co.uk/resources/stats/click.php?c=629&e=427&o=1030&url=http%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2F3251abnb
  5. Had a short trip out on a boat with a gorgeous sounding 2LW today, only other boat I saw moving was one with a broken engine - pulled him across the cut to the workshop.
  6. Apparently if you moor ( not just CC'ERS but proper boaters too) on a Long term mooring site for ......1 second or more, you are overstaying and will be given a £150 overstay charge.!!!!!!
  7. That is for staying on a signed place for more than the signed time, CCERS do NOT get fined for not moving far enough, the process I stated is started.
  8. CRT cannot fine you, they may issue you with a letter, them restrict your licence to a shorter period where you have to move in a way that 'satisfies the board' to get your full licence back.....or lose your licence altogether and have to leave CRT waters or have your boat taken off you.
  9. A couple of years ago I did 8 rivers in one month(March)....several of which were in flood. Wey, Thames ( red boards ),Gade ...cheating a bit on the G U ( but it was in flood), Tove, Trent, Soar, Nene , Great Ouse.
  10. Good luck with the 'new' venture, it looks a fantastic opportunity and like you say, lots of boats nearby, you just need them to come down the lift.
  11. That route isn' possible.with Braunston, Atherstone, Tamworth and Derwent Mouth Lock all closed.....amongst others...
  12. It seems to be endemic and getting worse on these conditions, boats which 10 years ago had no issues are now showing problems with no change of usage or marinas.
  13. Buy your own boat and do it yourself (simple), or let us know why this is a challenge then we can advise you on where to look for the right kind of support.
  14. If you never have a landline connection, the a GI is useless. This does however include having a genny on the bank or having an online mooring with an onshore supply of some sort. However, all the worst examples of this come from marinas on canals where there are many boats connected up all year round. (This one was from Whilton)
  15. Why would they need to pick up crew for the next lock less than 200 yards away..... (Although, yes, I have seen this done!!!!)
  16. This is a good example of galvanic corrosion on a vicious scale. Even the underwater algae don't like growing as the heat is too much. The deepest pits are in other areas.
  17. Especially not on a Brindley canal.
  18. The boat in my picture was moored on the lower lock landing at Sileby two days later.....even dafter spot considering that the wier stream pushes you onto the lock landing there anyway!!
  19. That was the first thing I thought, I wonder who would do something like that ? !
  20. This one was also a bit stoopid, luckily I was coming up the lock and didnt need the lock landing .
  21. I very much doubt that you will be queuing for locks on the Grand Union, and hitting the Watford and Foxton flights at the right time means you can easily avoid and delay there as well. The rivers don't often flood (River Soar about 2 or 3 days in last 12 months) - I've done it in 6 very long days(to little Venice from Sawley) In towards Hull may have been a better wording!!
  22. You also can only do it in a boat no wider than 7ft, none of those fat boats will fit all the way unless they go out via the Thames and back in at Hull and down the Trent.
  23. Shot or grit blasting. Yes, a new build is best done this way, otherwise the paint and blacking will not adhere well. Cosmetic false rivets are a superb source of your first rust patch...especially if the boat is sprayed rather than painted.
