  1. Looking good Peter. Is this a spare or are you replacing the one thats in your boat already? That always sounds good in your vids. My own is running lovely now (still needs some more work on the injection side though)
  2. Nope- just on my way to pick it up at the moment so passing through next weekend all being well .. I like to time it so that kebab shop down the road is open ?
  3. Ive come across Leon many a time- hes always left the locks set ahead of me (free!) and I dont doubt he has his faults - but I have to say he does a good job putting boats through and works them efficiently. If you dont want his services just tell him. Simple.
  4. I not sure the lockeeper would like being described as such either lol. I have passed your house many times but never spotted you yet.. will be on a beaut of a tug called Clancy J..
  5. I use a philips screwdriver that has had the shaft cut down to approx 2 inches long to operate the hand wheels on the Nene locks.Works great. Some phone numbers for middle levels you will need- Stanground (must give 24hr notice) 07824600470 Marmot Priory 078248217737 Salters Lode 01366382292 If you are more than 60ft let Salters Lode know you are coming. The best bit of the Ouse starts at Popes Corner where you turn off for Cam... Going that way myself tomorrow so will watch out for you all-I am in a 67ft Tug ☺☺☺
  6. Morrisons is great for stocking up. Ive stopped there many times. You could spend the night in Northampton Marina if you prefer more facilities/ security. I prefer to do shopping at Wellingborough cos its got Tesco-water and elsan there too. Definetly join FOtrn -they got some great moorings. Can highly reccomend stopping at White Mills Marina too but again you will have to pay to stay! If you are here for a couple of months you will easily explore the Nene, Middle Level, Ouse and its triburaties. Have you Imray for Ouse and Nene? There is an online map for middle level and other info here https://middlelevel.gov.uk/navigation/ Northampton marina site has loads of info -I would sign up for SSA while you are here too- https://www.northamptonmarina.co.uk Enjoy!!
  7. Probably worth following the pipework from the Sump pump before using it (if it does even have one)- I recall some early engines had a diverter valve too that could extract either the gearbox or engine oil. May not apply to your engine of course..
  8. Only a minority DC. Your comments I always find as Im sure newcomers do, factual but respectful.
  9. I think living on a boat in London is probably an awful lot better than having to live in certain housing estates etc . At least you have a relatively good and easy chance of moving away..
  10. Well Im a bit short but I'd like to think Im still helpful ???
  11. I use Bed Mats- same thing as a nappy ,get them from Tesco and being bigger and rectangular fit your engine tray a treat..
  12. Thought so- this was taken early April when most of the country had either just come off or was still on Reds !
  13. Blimey Ssscrudy-think Im probably in your marina to pick up a licence next week- I wont be using the horn...?
  14. Well you have to at least give them credit for asking before it got put in the water. Personally I knew even less when I got my first boat and have never looked back..
  15. Many do - and all night too ?
  16. If you pull the 'pusher' forwards and have a set of drill bits handy they are an easy way to measure the gap-especially if the light is bad and you are hanging upside down with the blood rushing to your head!
  17. I think it all depends on the broker-Im fairly sure a quality brokerage eg ABNB state all boats going for sale should include ropes, windlasses, mooring equipment etc..
  18. Have to agree with that- Couple of weeks ago or so it was like passing under a gigantic hose pipe ?
  19. Thats a shame. He was a great and entertaining commentator.
  20. Last time I went there was a widebeam attempting to get through. Having been anounced over the tannoy as 'Fat boat coming' he then panicked and managed to run aground-being pulled off by a tug much to the crowds (and my) amusement. Did feel sorry for him though. So answer to your question is..?
  21. Great pic. Think it should be captioned' Beam me up Scotty'
  22. Dawncraft has a floor exactly as described by Alan de Enfield. They are prone to the bilge keel bolts leaking and saturating the foam between. The nuts on these are hidden between the two layers. It is not uncommon to (carefully) drill a small access hole to pump out water. Measure carefully and if you are in any doubt do it out of the water as I have no idea what 'modifications' may have been carried out to your boat over the years or even if it is a Dawncraft!
  23. Maybe -but its still alot quicker and closer than going abroad and many seem to happily do that... ?
  24. Feel free - there are a few on CWDF based on the Ouse- both the Ouse and its tributaries offer some great cruising (I am not a fan of the Ely section of Ouse though-its a bit bland). The further up River you venture the quieter it gets!
