  3. Coming in to this debate a bit late but, I think CRT should base the licence fees on the same principle as the EA do on the Thames and that is by the square area of the boat. I have a wide beam, 11ft wide and my licence is the same as anything wider, so is the fair? Not that I have read every reply on this post but I haven’t seen anything about increasing the fees for fishing or canoeing or these boards that you stand up on. As for the survey, CRT will do what ever they want or have already decided upon.
  4. Try looking on Apollo Duck for moorings there is one being advertised on the K&A around Newbury at the moment. https://www.apolloduck.co.uk/boats-for-sale/marinas-and-moorings/residential-moorings
  5. Kennet & Avon Canal Length 87 miles Locks 104 Maximum boat dimensions Guide only - weather conditions can affect water levels Length Width Draught Headroom 21.95m 72ft 4m 13ft 1" 1.1m 3ft 7" 2.4m 7ft 10" I think the lowest bridge is Marsh Farm near Hilperton.

  7. I used carpet tiles on my hatch, stuck them on with impact adhesive been on 12 years now no problems.
  8. Try these people, very helpful https://store.ukboatyard.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=60&page=4
  9. My Dad always called them "Itchers", when he worked on the barges out of Brentford, I may have miss heard him and he said Hitchers. The one in bottom picture left looks like the type of one he used.

  12. is it a plastic tank with an inspection hatch on top, if so make sure that the 'O' ring seal has been fitted. you learn these things from experience.

  14. I think the Queen has done a marvellous job (and long may she continue to do so) these past 70 years and was happy to sound my horn for a minute here on the K&A.
  15. Is it me or does the second battery up on the left hand side have both positive and negative terminals connected to positive terminals on other batteries or is this a 24v setup?
  16. This also happens quite a lot on the K&A.
  17. You could try Thames & Kennet Marina, they sold smokeless coal when I was moored there.
  18. Its not Thames & Kennet that does the blacking but "Butcher Marin" 0780 191981.
  19. This may be of some help. https://www.enginesplus.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Isuzu-Canal-Boat-Engine-Spares-List-010321.pdf https://indigodream.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/hmi-isuzu-manual.pdf
  20. If it's all of the taps playing up then it sounds like either scale build up in the calorifier or on the cold feed fitting to the tank.
  21. My dad worked towing barges on the GU out of Brentford using one of these tractors, can't remember how far up the GU he went though. When he first started to drive one he had L plates up, then took his driving test on one said it was easy doing the emergency stop as tractor only able to do 12 mph. Any one on here remember Tubby Wheeler?
  22. You need one of these https://www.onbuy.com/gb/valiant-fireside-tidy-ash-transporter-black-gloss-steel-storage-box-fir240~c13671~p7482999/?exta=gshp&stat=eyJpcCI6IjI5Ljk5MDAiLCJkcCI6bnVsbCwibGlkIjo3NjA3ODY1MiwicyI6bnVsbCwidCI6MTYzODc0NzYzMSwiYm1jIjoiMTAuMCJ9&lid=76078652&gclid=CjwKCAiAhreNBhAYEiwAFGGKPHvVfXCb9vQ6jdIu3DObVNqbZ-yIXeoBXxoOI-zpxj1Agmlr9UByYRoCulMQAvD_BwE to put your ash in.
  23. You asked for a quick fix so yes serious. The black gaffer tape may mean a bit of a repaint as it is liable to pull off some of your paint work around the hatch when you come to remove it. I had water getting in around my Houdini Hatch some year ago, turned out to be getting in via the fixing screws, took them all out and put a bit of silicon in the holes then replaced the screws, no more problem. din
  24. A plant pot tray and a couple of bricks will do the trick.
  25. We had the same trouble with our CO2 alarm going off till we got one of these https://www.onbuy.com/gb/valiant-fireside-tidy-ash-transporter-black-gloss-steel-storage-box-fir240~c13671~p7482999/?exta=gshp&stat=eyJpcCI6IjI5Ljk5MDAiLCJkcCI6bnVsbCwibGlkIjo3NjA3ODY1MiwicyI6bnVsbCwidCI6MTYzODc0NzYzMSwiYm1jIjoiMTAuMCJ9&lid=76078652&gclid=CjwKCAiAhreNBhAYEiwAFGGKPHvVfXCb9vQ6jdIu3DObVNqbZ-yIXeoBXxoOI-zpxj1Agmlr9UByYRoCulMQAvD_BwE Not had any trouble since. I would also say to check you alarms and fire extinguishers at least once a month. With the fire extinguishers, take them off of their mounting and turn them upside down a few time to shake up the powder inside.
