  1. Would the North East do, if so try Hartlepool Marine, (Sorry have not got contact details at the moment), I got some cleaning tablets off the recently and they sent these and a good brochure covering the full Refleks range
  2. I wish, I have got a spare 2LW block under the bed though. Hope all well, see you have a new mutt, what happened to the old one, and what make is the new one?.
  3. It'a all been covered in previous postings, I don't have a Refleks but have a Kabola OD$ which runs on the same basis (oil/drip feed). These oil burning stoves are excellent and run for long periods with minimum attention. It's worth considering where the oil supply will be stored on the boat - ie. dedicated tank, shared from the main tank and pumped to a day tank. Using them to supply hot water for domestic use is a good idea and an ideal solution would be a Calorifier with 2 circuits, one for the Refleks and another for an engine connection.
  4. Hi and welcome, answer -- YES, YES, useful facebook site - Refleks Diesel Heaters...............best of luck, you are looking for the best way of keeping nice and warm and no DUST!!, have fun. L
  5. No chance, the Eco Fan on top of the Kabola would chop it to bits.........................................................hope all well.
  6. I run a Kabola heater on a low setting and put an old duvet over the engine. Works a treat.
  7. HI TD, Have a look at Areandare blog, the husband is a Kiwi (wife is English), they lived in NZ, but had a boat over here and cruised during the UK summers months. Now they have moved to the UK and live on Areandare and trade on the canals. They let someone else buy the boat for them before they came back to the UK, purchasing through ANB? boats near Crick. Lots of info and probably sound advice. Good Luck, I think you may find mooring cost high, especially in the South, L.
  8. Not sure last I heard it was on the River Lea and had been painted green, but that was a few years ago.
  9. Hi, Repair cost for a diesel heater are very variable, it depends on what make and sort of heater it is. Drip feed Reflecks or Kabolas are pretty simple and not too expensive to repair, both have models which do hot water and a 'wet' heating system. Other sorts can be tricky as they are much more complicated. I have a Kabola and it's a very good product, the Refleks heater are similar they do not require a 12 volt electric supply. This year I carried out an overhaul of mine, re-newing one expensive part, it cost £250, but that is unusual. Hope that helps. L
  10. Hi, If yours is a Tony Francis boat, that weed hatch arrangement is heavy - I have one and found it makes life easier if you cut and profile a hole to take a drain cover lifting hook. This makes the handle stand about 9" above the cover and makes for an easier lift. It you stand it on the counter when clearing the prop. make sure you tie it in case it falls off - you would need a big magnet to retrieve it if it did. M

  12. Thanks for this, I have seen one or two pictures of the bore at Gainsborough and in some it looks amazing, what is the effect on boats, particularly narrowboats?.
  13. Those ladders are excellent, it is important to have the extension to grab hold off and help getting over the edge.

  15. In some respects it's an interesting question.......looking at the whole picture it all looks a 'bodge up', doubtful fit out, wires in polystyrene, male and female connectors the wrong way round, don't disconnect it just rewire the whole lot. Would love to see some more pictures of the boat though.

  19. The problem is the batteries are 'gassing' excessively, the silver pipes will soon turn black. On a positive note, you will have no problems with spiders for a year or so.

  22. I wondered about that and tried to be as tactful as possible, but life was so different back then - the developer was a brilliant Irishman and the jokes he told were outstanding, almost makes Mrs Brown's Boys seem tame.
  23. Mark, It's worth looking at a geological map of the valley running from Watford down to West Drayton and beyond, draining the Colne, Fray and Chess. It's gravel with lots of peat and one long run of marsh and bogs. Useful road crossings were rare - at Watford and Uxbridge. In the early 1980's I was part of a development group building houses at Harefield, ground conditions caused lots of problems with foundation design, machinery movements (particularly piling derricks). Sub ground water, running streams - I recall one Irish worker starting a pump to try and pump out a foundation trench.........he could not understand why the level never went down...... Merry Christmas. Mike.
