  1. Seems a bit pointless as most horizontal calorifiers will have a bit of air in them so will act as an accumulator.
  2. I can’t imagine having a boat without a SF stove. A decent one like a Squirrel or Brunel are easily controllable and can keep a 57” boat toasty in the middle of winter and much cheaper than running a diesel heater.
  3. Quite agree. A friend who was a hygienist was horrified to see our wooden chopping boards, until I pointed out that recent studies had shown that they held far less bacteria than plastic boards. My son spent a couple of his very early years on a dairy farm. We frequently hauled him out of the muck and one day he proudly showed us the 'currants' he had found - he had just walked across the field where the sheep were... He only had three days sick off school from the age of 4 to 18. My previous boat had an integral tank and in the 12 years we had it we never opened the hatch. Peering in the filler showed a variety of rusticles but nothing actually swimming. We did have a Springclear filter on the galley tap, which I back-flushed every few months if the flow got a bit slow. Too much is made of over-protection from natural bugs (Covid excluded), so no chance of picking up any immunity. As the grannies used to say "everybody needs to eat a bit of dirt".
  4. Ok, as others have said, it looks like a good boat, albeit a little overpriced, but given the state of the market at the moment ... You may find the water capacity is in fact more. However it is enough but you may need to change how you go about using it. My wife and I manage on about 30 litres a day, and that is with two showers including her long hair washed every day, washing up and all the drinks needed. Keep a 20 litre poly Jerry or two somewhere out of the light as backup. You may be paying a bit too much, but how much more would you spend if you continue looking, paying for more surveys etc? If you can afford it, go for it - you could finish up with much worse. P.S. Welcome to the wonderful world of boating!
  5. One of the things I liked about Australia is that they would put up a sign warning you of a dangerous situation, but not actually banning you from going to it or putting a fence up.
  6. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  7. What do you mean by 'shed'? 4x2' garden box or 6x8' garden shed.
  8. Post a link to the boat for a start. This will help people judge the price.
  9. Maybe modify your showering technique. ‘Navy’ showers are the way to go. My wife and I manage on about 30 litres a day with showers, hair washing daily and washing up etc.
  10. Maybe it's based on a modified Ecofan. The draught produced by the propeller would blow the boat along.
  11. Whilst the piling looks like typical waterways, crt could argue that it is the landowner’s tree that is causing the damage and so is their responsibility. I would cut the tree down pretty smartish.
  12. Excellent. “Dolphins and wish-washy water maidens”. The observations on the railway one are interesting too, particularly Johnathan Meades introductory comments.
  13. Usual problem is the crud building up on the top of the baffle plate at the top of the firebox. Take the baffle plate out before rattling the flue. the other baffle referred to by TD shouldn’t be there, but some installers don’t understand the setup for a short flue and don’t remove it.
  14. Yes I have just seen that one. I thought this was a new, more severe lockdown.
  15. I looked too, must have missed it. Sorry. Eta: I’m not so sure, this has just been announced as total lockdown; admittedly the Llangollen was already covered.
  16. No visitors from tier 2 or 3, so no one can travel into Wales on the Llangollen as Cheshire is tier 2. No option to go south either as Hack Green is to closed.
  17. Interesting that virtually all the boats are empty. What is it upstream that they are all heading for?
  18. My Audi A6 did something similar. Looked like I was running on coal. Managed to reach the dealer and when I stopped the car just sat in the middle of a black cloud. Most unreliable car I ever had in my company car days.
  19. I suspect all those working boats will be magically pulled in to just under 7’ 1”.
  20. As a student I lived in "West Chelsea" for a while ...
  21. Near the Welsh border is a village called "New Invention ". Some way had added underneath "patent applied for ".
  22. Last time(a few months ago) I said that I was told it no longer applies.
  23. Just out of interest, is he doing this as part of his official role as a PCSO, or is he doing it in his own time?
  24. Try "fiddle rail" ETA: better: wooden gallery rail uk
