  1. Ever curious i turned up this (even looks a bit like you Bill) I personally would never be without my boat hook. Someone knicked my very old knackered shaft and I was very reluctant to go boating without it. It is the only way of grabbing things you can't reach for whatever reason. Boats, ropes, lock gates, bits of old floating rubbish, even the dog once. I just used one 15 minutes ago to pull the boat in as it was starting to drift out. I would quite like a keb as well but it's a luxury rather than the necessity of a boat pole. I disagree with Bill about clearing the prop, although you can hook a blade or the shaft, you generally can tell and pulling the blades round is one way of unwrapping things. One thing I have noticed is that with my new shaft the pointy bit is longer and it's not as versatile. When i find my round tuits I'm going to adjust it.
  2. This ^^^ Although a swim fronted boat will tow alright as long as it's tight behind the tug.
  3. I can't see the place you're talking about and it sounds like more than a bit of shuffling but your 'I would not dream of touching someone else's boat.' - I would. If it made life easier for me, or for someone else and did no harm, I would, and have certainly moved boats along a bit.
  4. What a good idea. Meet mildly anti-social behaviour with violence. Always works. Engine running? Can geezer swim? So you, Lyerboat would react with your testosterone rather than intelligence. Probably the best outcome, for you, is that you get beaten up by the mob you just incited. The worst? You're up on a manslaughter charge. As I say, what a good idea.
  5. Agreed, it needs thinning a lot, with white spirit, the thinner you get it the shinier it becomes. Odd, but good paint.

  7. Yes, I finally got inspired to look it up. A good way to express it is to liken it to a switched mode power supply (inverter, battery charger) for DC where the output is lower than the input. I suppose the next question is why are they readily available in the US and China but seem impossible to source in this country. ....and the next comment is ; oh no not more RFI. Indeed, I'd go further and say if it was me and it was too precious to just chop the power supply off I would buy a 1A maplin (well Rapid not maplin) switchable doo-dah and see if it melts (risk £5). ....which has reminded me I need to put one on a list I'm making.
  8. I think you'll struggle to find anything off the shelf at 2A, which means the first thing is probably to find out how much power it really takes . Or buy a 'buck' (what does that mean?)regulator from china for a couple of quid or get one of these; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2A-POSITIVE-FIXED-VOLTAGE-REGULATOR-L78S09CV-9V-/190851130917 and a few other bits and a bit of vero board like this; http://www.mybitbox.com/articles/standalone-voltage-regulator/ Though I'd imagine you'd want a heat sink if you did run it anywhere near 2A More bits; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-General-Purpose-IC-PC-Board/130645827801 you can even get the 10V one and have no excuse; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/78S10-Voltage-Regulator-x-1-pieces-/400360726027 though at that price I'd probably go 9V. I do remember a circuit where you can raise the output of a 78XX by putting a resistor in the ground pin.
  9. You want to keep your Euros the rate the worth-less pound is going.
  10. Obviously a Hudson boat, the rest of us would have used a two pence piece no.... don't do it Pink.... .....just my twopenn'th
  11. Some of us would just chop the plug off and run it on 12V anyway but you might blow it up so Bizzard's suggestion may be more sensible. If it was a 10V AC output on the PSU then you could be more certain it would be safe.
  12. Mr Kuma will need to be short (if it is Das Boot)
  13. You need to remove the swans neck first (screw? bolt? in your small picture). The disc will the come up off the stock. If there's a bearing it will be beneath that. Not all rudders have bearings. I see it's a hex bolt. It will be hard in there after this time. Give it a thorough clean of all the paint off and a little bit of diesel between the head and the rudder stock clamp before trying to turn it. Then use a ring spanner or a 6 point socket.
  14. Yes, but I had a thunk and it was that this is something to do with the 4G rollout. I can't imagine the £15 (or £18) will include 4G access.
  15. It's a bit annoying as I've just come off the one month rolling at £25 to get a new phone for £35 which means the phone is now costing me £480 rather than £240. It's a one month contract.
  16. Removed in response to the apology. Although it would be nice to believe the apology came about through you thinking about the wrongness of what you said rather than just because you offended some people. Much more important. Only 59,783,484 to go (and that's just the thoroughbred British)
  17. Used to have one. Crap. And you still need to find the water to rinse.
  18. Try clearing out all your cookies (or the yahoo ones at least) and trying again.
  19. Are you sure it rejected it for being not secure enough and not for containing illegal characters?
  20. the latter But you have to treat them right. They are excellent with solar power and they like a good 14.7V up 'em. But they will do far more cycles to a far higher DOD than cheapo leisure batteries. And don't work out that much more expensive.
  21. That's a great potted guide to the core of the BCN. Thank you Mr Hogg. I'll have it with me the next time I boat there.
  22. My impression is that Toplac has changed in the last few years and not is much the same as any other spirit based enamel. Previous to that it smelt different, wouldn't skin over in the tin and was a most lovely paint to apply. Now there seems to be little difference to any other paint (apart from the price). Whether it's because of EU regulations of some additive in the old formula I don't know... ...but it ain't what it used to be...
  23. Paint always looks lighter on large panels than on swatches. lots As for the OP. if you wanted BS matching then you were a bit of a numpty not to specify it on the first product you chose. a fairly elementary mistake and International's customer service is top[ notch if they didn't laugh at you when you asked for a refund. as for spending another £5k on rectifying your mistake. if that's an option you obviously have more money than you know what to do with so go for it. ...
  24. Can you get successively finer filters for them Tim? or is the standard fitting of one on bulkhead one on engine with identical filters?
