  1. You've obviously got enough DIY skills to get this far - any reason why you can't finish the job?
  2. Well, the crane would sink if they didn't.
  3. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Wireless-Bluetooth-Radiators-Subwoofers/dp/B0109TWZ54/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1459497053&sr=8-1&keywords=bluetooth+speaker+anker Got one of these at Christmas - amazing sound quality for the size- there's a YouTube video comparing it to the similar sized Bose - comes out very well.
  4. Also, if the pin is struck by lightning and melts, the rope will release. Bad form.
  5. New series on Channel 4 and Channel 4HD starting Sunday 20th March at 20.00. Three new episodes.
  6. OK back on topic: anyone recall getting 4 blackjacks/fruit salad for an OLD penny? Also, despite therefore being a farthing each, only able to buy in multiples of four? Also, who liked going to the dentist?
  7. Most folk recommend the Whale Gulper for this. I had a sump box with float switch arrangement, which was fine until it clogged. I replaced with a Gulper, and it's much better. No clogging, no pool of shower water in the tray.

    The Bargee

Thanks for that. I've travelled that stretch a few years ago and didn't recognise the location. I'll know next time.

    The Bargee

Canal centred film "The Bargee" now on Freeview channel 81, Talking Pictures TV. I missed the start, but this channel does lots of repeats. Yup it's on tomorrow, Sunday at 14.05
  11. There has been a series on British TV called "Canal Walks with Julia Bradbury". In the last one, she walks a section of the Llangollen Canal from the head of navigation to the aqueduct. I was surprised to find it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGQJAw9nBKI Enjoy!
  12. A dry engine compartment is a pipe dream for me. My boat has a silly arrangement where the steps down into the rear cabin are outside the door, so rainwater builds up in the stairwell, or would if there wasn't a drain hole down into the bilge. I've tried to arrange for this water to go to a container with it's own bilge pump, but then found that water was coming from the deckboards as well, so I'm resigned to having a wet bilge.
  13. Sorry if this has been flagged up already, but the first of a new 3 part series is on Channel 4 this Sunday at 8pm. Digiguide gives this info: TRAVEL: Great Canal Journeys Channel: Channel 4 HD 104 Date: Sunday 25th October 2015 Time: 20:00 to 21:00 (starting in 3 days) Duration: 1 hour. In the first of a new series, actors and canal lovers Timothy West and Prunella Scales go in search of London's lost route to the sea. They navigate from the Thames at Teddington, through the Surrey and Sussex countryside, to Littlehampton on the south coast. The journey takes in four different waterways and four separate boats, as they follow a route that was last fully open two centuries ago. They explore the beautiful, almost forgotten Wey and Arun, where time itself seems to move at a slower pace. Their voyage back through canal history also leads Tim and Pru into their own past. The Wey Navigation takes them through Guildford, to its canal-side theatre where they have been regular performers for fifty years. At the Surrey village of Sutton Abinger, they pay a visit to the picturesque cottage where Pru was born. And for the final leg of the journey, Tim and Pru transfer onto the River Arun, travelling past Arundel Castle to Littlehampton and the English Channel. (High Definition, Subtitles, Part 1 of 3, Audio Described, Episode 1, 4 Star) Excerpt taken from DigiGuide The second programme covers their journey from Brum to Braunston. I have no info on programme 3.
  14. I fitted a fifteen quid double pole isolator switch from Screwfix: http://www.screwfix.com/p/ip65-isolator-switch-25a/15054 Whenever I go anywhere near the MPPT controller with a screwdriver (!) I isolate the panels (2 x 250W) to be on the safe side.
  15. That is our experience as well, been fine since we started using it a few years ago, now not working- smells appearing only a few days after a pumpout. The Odourloss bottle says "no smells guaranteed" ! What bio laundry detergent do you use? How much?
  16. Nice. Do you have more details of the 12v digital control relay please?
  17. 2 x 250W flat mounted panels into a 40A MPPT controller, into 4 x 110AH leisure batteries. Best thing since sliced bread! We are not liveaboards but we go for extended cruises (6-12 weeks) Runs our 240v fridge via 2kW inverter - before solar we had to turn the fridge off overnight, now we leave it on 24/7 when we're on the boat. Takes the necessity to run the engine out of the equation - we now tend to cruise more leisurely, spending more time in one spot; before solar we had to run the engine so we cruised long days every day. If the SmartGauge reached 100% we were pleased, now with the solar it is the norm during daylight. When I come back to the boat after a week or two at home it's great to see the SG at 100%.
  18. You're right, it's all about consideration, consideration, consideration.
  19. website here: http://www.prity-bg.com/prity.php?lang=en&section=choice
  20. Just to add that the load connected to the rightmost two terminals on the controller can be switched on and off automatically by the internal timer. (I think I read somewhere these were designed to control street lighting in off grid areas). I am sure there's some boaty use for a daily switched 12v feed beyond a light coming on for a certain duration at a set time, but I haven't had time to think of one!
  21. I think you'll find the term is now "Kriss-take"
  22. Yup, if there's a row of boats at a mooring, I will pick the boat with a shed load of pv to moor next to, much less likely to have a motor running in the evening.
