  3. Leeds and Liverpool has plenty of locks padlocked from today.
  4. Yep. How much extra VAT has been taken while prices are so high?
  5. If it's the bathroom window and you are looking at a replacement, frosted or similar might be a good idea.
  6. Smidge or something with the same active ingredient works well. My wife has extreme reactions to bites and this is her go to.
  7. Apologies if this has already been posted https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/21826-lock-flight-operating-times-wigan-to-kirkstall-leeds-and-liverpool-canal
  8. Stamps went up in April and could go up again. Soon the annual ground rent letter we receive will cost more in postage than the rent requested.
  9. You have made Martin very happy. Simple solution but a great result, given it was urgent.
  10. I don't know the owners but I'm guessing you might have had a better experience if it had been the small post office at Adlington, just by the canal and carrying copies of Towpath Talk. I passed you moored just by there at the weekend. Not much help, sorry.
  11. Out of water over winter you will need to be thorough with the winterising of the boat. It will get a lot colder out of the water when the temperature plummets.
  12. Even on wider canals, it leaves me bewildered when wide boats moor up where a boat their width would struggle to pass or have to run through a well established jungle on the off side to get past. It could be them having to crawl their boat past through the forest. I went past one this week and was wondering about their thinking. Is it lack of any awareness or knowing and not giving a sh**.
  13. I always let on to anyone passing who makes eye contact, unless they are obviously idiots.
  14. I stayed at an air bnb in Newport whilst on the last ever (Jan 2020) RCR boat maintenance course. It seemed a nice town and my wife explored the old canal. Lots of interesting canal architecture in place. I think it's about 5 miles from the Shropshire Union heading north. Heading south, if that happens, it would link to Shrewsbury.
  15. The flip side of steel plates over windows could be that, if it looks like fort knox, someone might think there's something worth trying to break in for, compared to the boats not obviously highly secured. And it's also an indicator that nobody's at home.

  17. I'm no expert so could be wrong but I think there's no cost to hosting videos on YouTube, which is where their video tutorials are. So, hopefully, they can just stay there.
  18. To be clear I'm specifically talking about the use of the word twat.
  19. Some of the language on here is pretty grim. Please don't use words you wouldn't think ok in conversation with your mother, wife, partner, daughter, granddaughter.

  21. I assumed they would have been treated for use in a bathroom but apparently not, and apparently nobody else had mentioned rusting. Untreated iron in a bathroom or kitchen, why might that rust? Different supplier above, so the ones linked may or may not be treated.
