  1. First off be aware that the battery has to be well charged and in good order or the engine running and charging to get it fired up properly. The ignition phase draws considerable current, low battery or poor cable connections will cause this problem.
  2. One "nut" is a backnut for plumbing brassware, it will be BSP thread, the other is an electrical conduit nut, the thread on the shaft will be neither of these. Most will be Whitworth, unified course or metric depending on the age. I would say that you seem to have very limited engineering knowledge and are struggling. Go get professional help now, you will have to in the end.
  3. Dump the horrible dump through and fit a sealed loo. They always stink. You could pressure test the tank by bunging up the inlet and outlets and use a bike pump.
  4. If the alternator is working, it will get warm to hot after a short time.
  5. The last one I remember that was doing this had a faulty relay in the control box. A new box came from Mikuni and it had a much uprated relay inside so perhaps its a regular fault. I would caution about taking it apart, the screws strip their threads easily and the paper gaskets all fall apart as soon as you remove them.
  6. £21 inc postage from the Solid Fuel Advisory Service on ebay, lowest price I could find. £17.85 if you want 4 Batteries? Probat from autocarpartsrus on ebay 130Ah, £84.95 delivered OR £79 if ordering 4 or more and they are OK batteries. Same size as 110Ah but heavier, lots of lead. Polish made I think.
  7. #1, but not one, millions of them, flesh eating mini mosquitoes. Not malarial but a total pain, all over.
  8. I "inspected" at launch but I was not selling or fitting the shells, so diplomacy dictates holding my tongue. I did mention the odd ones that started sinking as soon as in the water though!
  9. Tidy job but bend the tab ends in, they will pick up a load of rubbish otherwise.
  10. Seen it before, the good guys turn the plate over and weld both sides. But I know of a top line shell that was like this brand new before it was fitted out by a top lin fitter. Evans? About this time Mike Heywood was there, unusual for him but he was not in the best of health.
  11. Sleep with an arm out of bed so you know when the water reaches you. Seriously, either you have a leak, a faulty PRV or non return valve in the pump. Sometimes the pump will run as the hot water in a calorifier cools overnight but not several times. A incorrectly pressurised accumulator will exacerbate this problem.
  12. Not strictly my modification, the much maligned "Boater Sam" has these machined up by one of the mates, several boats running around have them now.
  13. Do you know how to take the shaft out? Rudder?
  14. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  15. That would make it difficult. I don't understand why the design of the rudder bottom cup is like it is, all the grit and rubbish in the water causes extreme wear. Also rusty steel in phosphor bronze is a poor mix. I re-engineer the bottom pivot the other way up in stainless steel and phosphor bronze bush and have a lot less wear.
  16. Zanussi KWC1300 washer on a blending thermostat set to 40 deg. running off 90A alternator, 1800w pure sine inverter. Only wash when moving so hot water and electricity are not a problem. Rinses with warm water too, clothes dry faster and are fresher with no detergent residues. Quick program uses not a lot of water and takes about 50 minutes providing the water is warm at the start. The heating element rarely comes on at all. As we are moving, the water is warm again soon after the wash is finished. I leave a 240v reading lamp on whilst washing else the washer gets confused because the inverter goes into standby in the final spin pause period but its not a problem. No space for a built in genny and would hate to run one on the bank for wash day.
  17. Ah, the dreaded multiplug strikes again? Beta?
  18. Do you have a good torch? Put it in a sealed poly bag, tie a string on it and lower it into the weed hatch till you can see the skeg and cup.
  19. I got Crowthers to sharpen my prop when they rebalanced it, not much survives 37 HP trashing a 18" X 10.5" wide blade prop.

    leaking fuel ?

It could be a union, a gasket, an o ring in the pump, a bleed screw, dry it all and dab around with a blue paper towel. Finding Diesel leaks is not easy.
  21. The wiring is a shambles, get it sorted before it goes up in flames. It could be the reason the alternator gave out. It will never be reliable like that.
  22. I asked........" New message from: mp_and_h (803) Hi We can supply heaters with cut off voltage set to 9.76v which is the same as marine ones. Thanks "
  23. Another sort of rubbish. Not like you OldGoat, why upset all the thousands of BMC engine boater making false statements?? Don't worry about plastic bags, wait till you get a mattress on the blade. Steel radial tyres are fun too, ensure you have a hacksaw or better still a wire saw like this- https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=wire+saw&_sacat=0&_sop=15
  24. Def a dowel hole, t'other is at the bottom, dowels not shown on diagram.
