  1. To go green, eliminate the people.
  2. Biggest that you can get into the terminals. Spend the money on the fattest, do it only once.

  4. I doubt that you have room on those hooks for a rivet gun head. Drill 4.2mm, tap 5mm ( bit of grease to ease the tap ) and use 5mm button headed allen key machine screws with non silicone sealant is the best way. Then when you snap a hook off you can easily replace it. Button heads don't snag on things. Silicone sealants can cause rusting on steel.
  5. A lavatory hand wash basin is not a sink. If you know the difference between a Bison and a Buffalo you are almost there....
  6. One of my ex business partners moved a recently charged car battery. As he put it down, the top blew off into his face. Fortunately he had glasses on and I grabbed him and pushed his head into the loo and flushed it. Apart from a few bruises he was OK. The battery was not.
  7. Battery failure. Or bad connection. Does it do it with the engine running and charging the battery bank?
  8. I did a couple of economy heating jobs on boats using discarder fire extinguishers with tank connectors fitted in the bottom. On their wall clips too. Conversation pieces.
  9. Red ones need checking as they are normally for heating system expansion, not fresh water. Blue and white are usually for potable water.
  10. 50 kg anthracite and 50kg Supatherm in sacs from the local coal merchant, delivered, £39. We mix the two ,like cocktails.
  11. Don't disconnect your car battery, modern ones don't like it !!!! Dump the hot one.
  12. Has it always done this? Is the boat new to you? Have you checked for loose drive coupling bolts etc? Is there lots of backlash in the drive shaft or Python? Have you checked the prop? PRM120 is a mechanical box with cone clutches, if the tickover of the engine is too high it will engage with a snatch.
  13. Light bulbs, the filament type. A few 100w ones in strategic places will prevent freezing.
  14. Relying on a pump on a solid fuel stove is a bad idea IMHO. It is possible to do a gravity system, just takes a bit of design and planning.

  17. Sound like an exceptionally fine flooring job. Have you worked out where you do not need ballast, like where the calorifier, stove, washer, etc. goes? Leave out the equivalent weights in bricks. Usually boats list towards the side where there is no passageway. Or else you will have to alter the ballast after you have fitted out. So leave some access to the underfloor. And a trap at the rear for checking for water in the bilge.
  18. The problem with using a washer as well is that the flat and the thread on the screw extends up to the head. This is probably the reason an o ring will not work. Can you find a machine screw with the right thread and use an o ring on that?
  19. Have you got an old o ring from a fuel filter? The small one that goes under the bolt head? Or a hardware shop, they will have a box full of all sizes of o rings. Paying that amount of cash for a 2p o ring is crazy. There is nothing special about this seal, even wrapping the screw with PTFE tape will work.
  20. Wigrams Turn Marina at Napton have moorings and lockable workshops and stores.
  21. Not questioning your post. BUT as the screw is the lowest point, any leak from a seal on the body or unions will find its way down to the drain screw. Diesel is a creeping fluid, it is hard to spot where it comes from. Dry every surface, wrap a tissue, preferably coloured, around the body, not the screw, to establish exactly where it is coming from.
  22. Best Phenolic faced ply is Buffalo board but expensive. My floor is Stirling OSB, 30 years old and as good as the day it was laid. Nice prep on the floor but I notice that there is still no cross ventilation gaps. Its a very shallow underfloor space not to be ventilated.
  23. OSB is now more reliable than most marine plies, and cheaper. Exterior grade is a recognised structural timber.
