  1. Not that I know of but anything is possible, thanks Well put and very very accurate!
  2. Thanks much appreciated and yes will think about joining you guys if all else fails. ? None to our knowledge at the moment we are the only ones that they are targeting on the Calder & Hebble, Horbury Basin which is about 25 mins cruise away isn't being closed and neither is Elland etc.. . Thanks for the support. If H&S was an issue why weren't they closed in December 2015?
  3. Exactly maybe collectively boaters should be looking at ways of getting some resemblance of customer service/value for money campaign going to make them accountable. Some of their own workers have suggested improvements and get told to keep quiet. Local representatives have refused to put anymore hardcore into fill holes in the towpath as it just washes away in storms a complete waste of money. Time for the little people to make a stand.
  4. They actually thought they had provided them! We have provided them to assist with the flooding, so far they have stood up to the test and yes it can get a bit hairy in the peak of the flood but no more so than at other sites, Horbury Basin, and Elland as previously mentioned. The boats who ended up on the towpath in Dec 2015 had no means of keeping them over the water, the scaffold poles and support do that now. No one has mentioned the elephant (a pontoon on the river that is never used) sell it for scrap and use the money to improve the moorings.
  5. The main reasons for the flooding being so severe in recent years is the lack of flood management by CRT. Failure to rebuild flood defenses effectively, a badly designed culvert which does not do the job for which is was constructed and arguments with the enviroment agency/CRT who's responsibility it is. Lack of dredging and river bank maintenance, a breach in the river bank close by has not been repaired which added to the problem. etc..... but they did manage to build a bin store for the site at a cost of £10K, which could have easily been done by a local contractor for around £1000? Whilst agree with some of your comments, the improvements to the site would be repaid in approximately 5 years from mooring fees so really it just comes down to money ultimately. A fraction of what they spend on rebranding, stupid signs etc...
  6. Hi Fellow Boaters We are trying to overturn CRT/Waterside Moorings decision from closing our lovely moorings on the Calder & Hebble Navigation at Broadcut in Wakefield, West Yorkshire All of the boaters who have moorings at Broadcut are acutely aware that there is a significant risk of flooding where the moorings are located. In the 3 and half years I have had my boat moored there (10 months paid before getting the boat to secure the mooring from auction) we have been on board to safeguard our property in numerous floods, the last on the 9th February 2020 which broke all records. We have not asked for anything more than options to improve the mooring site in these times and have never asked CRT for any assistance when in flood. We have not been consulted or contacted prior to the decision to change them to summer only moorings. They have given us notice to vacate by 30/9/2021 but have not provided any options of where 11 boats can move to. One of the longest moored boaters have been at the site for 25 years and if they are forced to move off they will have no choice but to sell their beloved boat 'Lingalonga' which is ultimately what they want to do at Broadcut. If you could spare a moment to sign our petition and put your weight behind boaters who get nothing from CRT but mismanagement of funds and contempt for genuine boaters we would be grateful. Thank you. https://www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/news/people/boaters-launch-petition-save-moorings-popular-wakefield-canal-3014925
  7. The River breached the retaining wall, nature decided it wanted to go straight and not round a corner. It smashed the offside wall and lock landing and this is what has ended up in the canal, a massive mound of bricks and debris. So the bywash has effectively become the canal.
  8. CRT are too interested in cyclists and well being initiatives. The canals are part of our heritage and are being neglected unfortunately, should be maintained properly for future generations of boaters to enjoy as we do now.
  9. I would be up for that we are at Broad Cut and going to have to moor up before the locks to go for a few in the Brewers Pride. Oh wait the Bingley Arms will be our local from April.Yay!!
  10. That is really bad, well at least CRT can't move you on. Stay safe.
  11. Definitely, we are moored at Broad Cut and the River Calder became the canal and at 6.30pm we were 4ft above the towpath thank god for our scaffolding poles secured by brackets to the bollards when the levels dropped at 1am. It also took out one of the Figure of Three locks above Horbury, smashed the offside wall to bits. Expecting similar on Saturday oh Lordy. Scariest flood in our two years there.
  12. Hi We are in the process of fitting additional 12v sockets and came across this seller on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/empral_uk/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= Good luck
  13. Probably but you get used to it as a Boater, everything you need has inflated prices hey ho don't sweat the small stuff
  14. Hi We have a 4kg Candy Aquamatic 1042D on board, runs off our Sterling 2500 inverter without any issues, we do normally use it with the engine running and normally when we are filling up at the water point, we are liveaboard. Has a superfast 14min wash cycle which we always use and uses about 40 ltrs of water per cycle. Expensive compared to the normal house size washer but after year it has saved us its purchase price on launderette fees anyway. Found mine on Ebay as a returned item small dent in front panel and got it for about £500 PS we haven't any issues with our Sterling Inverter either.
  15. Hi Rab Hope you don't mind but will follow this post as I need some for ours too. ?
  16. We're liveaboards on a 57ft NB we have a cross over bed full sized double which gives ample room at either side for a wardrobe each, and takes about a minute tops to pull out, drop the split mattress into place and climb in. Takes about the same to put away each morning and gives a walkway to stern for access.
  17. Its our forever home so if we live aboard for 20 years the reduction will be pennies in reality. Death and Taxes the only thing you can rely on.
  18. We bought our 57ft NB lined sailaway additions from Lymm, had it coming up 2 years now and happy with it so far.
  19. We have a 12v Shoreline under counter FridgeFreezer its been absolutely spot on since we got it last year. Seems to be very efficient on power also. Pricey but worth it, likely to outlast a cheap £100 240v fridge anyway.
  20. Hi We picked up our lined boat in the middle of March last year in the middle of the beast from the east. Slept in what can only be classed as a fridge for the next 10 days bringing her over the Rochdale Canal from Lymm to our mooring in Wakefield. With a full carpet out of the weed hatch, me going in the cut at Todmorden and an armor cabling round the prop dredging everything possible off the bottom of the canal. Still wouldn't swap her for a house. What you got to lose, go for it.
  21. No its an Alessi Kettle, very good quality and quick to boil too
  22. I was very lucky to get one of these beauties off Ebay for £21 including postage, retails around the £90 mark, very pretty and functional!
  23. Simon will try and source whatever you need and get it delivered as soon as possible, recently had our boat blacked there (2 pac) and received brilliant service from him and Dave at DB Marine.
  24. Just bought one off Amazon the same and was £7.49 pays to shop around ?
