  3. Yes DOH indeed because cutting and pasting tranches of legaleese ain't the way to get the support of anybody. No one can be bothered to read it let alone care about it so the CRT decided that a computer generated animation of a buzzy bee thingy might be a bit more accessible. As stated previously; love it / hate it, its still a fact. Maybe you could take y list of regulations, ordinances, directives, stipulations or whatever the f y callem and stick em on a church wall, or some other place that nobody goes anymore, bung a begging box underneath and watch the cash come rolling in

  6. That's my assumption too magic time is right. Look in the CRT's financial statement which, if you are a boat license payer and have given your e mail address you will have been sent a copy of, and you find that the CRT receives about 50 million quid a year from central government. This grant is due to end in roughly 10 years time when presumably the CRT will apply for further funding. They assume (almost certainly justifiably) that if the canal network is seen to benefit a broad section of the demographic as opposed to the 35000 or so boat license payers then they will get more money from government. This is what last years re-branding exercise is all about. Love it / hate it, its still a fact and one that should be remembered next time you are reading a pejorative post about inconsiderate cyclists, dog walkers, fishermen, hire boaters, runners, walkers and crawlers or any other group of the thousands of people who use the canals but don't own a boat.   8. Cheers Tony. This is also a very desirable answer answer, Knob and valve exactly as described so i gave it a few with a bike pump. If it cuts in again I may even find a pump with a gauge and endeavor to find the specs. At least I dont have to try and find a pencil.
  9. My water pump comes on occasionally too. I've checked for a leak and found none and though it happens more when the hot water tank is hot (as previously mentioned) sometimes it happens anyway. Its been a long way down things things to do list for a good while now coz it never really bothers me but I appear to have stumbled across the cause of the problem. So that begs the question, How do you repressurize an accumulator? Obviously the desired answer is that you close one eye wave a pencil at it and say the magic word. The least desirable answer is you dismantle the entire water system, post it off to the Faro islands and use bottled water for 6 months whilst waiting for it to come back after parting with a years supply of beer money. Advice please. Before you ask what accumulator it is, its red(useless but true) and in the least accessible part of the boat (also useless coz you already knew that) but ill find out if its relevant.

I personally am sure that mad harold has greater insight than the others BECAUSE he has had the same problem and dealt with it just as im also aware that polishing / filtration is an option there seems to be little point in spending 70 quid polishing eighty quids worth of diesel the swan thing was a joke Im off to eat baby on a stick

I have a had 60 foot boat on the leeds and liverpool for the last 2 years (y can add 2 feet if you count the fenders) I ve never been west o Barrowford so I can'tcomment, but from Barrowford to Leeds I know length is not a problem for a 60 foot boat .The canal was designed for 62 foot boats. Theres places where I expect to get a bit damp going down in the locks (everywhere but it won't sink y boat) and if you have an open front deck its gonna get wet going up. I think the shortest lock on that stretch is Lock 39 at Bank Newton but the middle Lock of 3 rise is also a good candidate. Its not like a massive drenching but plan for getting a tad wet . Its easily doable in a 60 foot boat, By the way The LeedsLliverpool is the nicest canal in the country
  14. thankyou for your posts, Im fully aware that there is water emulsified in the aforementioned diesel, and if you read the original post properly then you would also be fully aware that the aforementioned water emulsified diesel is no longer in the aforementioned diesel tank. The original post quite specifically solicited information about what is best do be done wit aforementioned said diesel so treat it (with what advice please) burn it anyway (well the engine was running fine on it and mad harold the only sensible responder out of 16 says "YEA" (but he might be mad)) dump it on a swan's nest at midnight along with the contents of my elsan
  15. My friend has 100 litres of red diesel which looks like this. (photo nicked from a related thread) Her engine has been running fine with it but due to the cloudiness we have removed the diesel from the fuel tank. Should she put it back and use it, can it be treated and cleared or should she dispose of it? What are the chances of engine damage if she uses it ? The engine in question is a Kingfisher so quite old.

  17. All the swing bridges are closed for boats with the possible exception of a footbridge just north of Bingley which Nicholsons says is fixed open (it isnt and was closed last time I passed). A couple of the automated ones are a mare for the single hander, (controls on the offside) the manual ones have recovery chains (unless they come off in which case too late, how sad, too bad).
  18. 100 yards the gargrave side of gawflat swing bridge is good usually a few other boats there 14 day towpath moorings with pins or nappy pins, between gawflat and brewery swing is also 14 days with pins or rings, a bit buisier but still quiet . the leeds side of brewery swing is 3 days in the boating season but still relatively quiet, it gets a bit noisier past springs branch but its skipton not the bronx. Skipton is a lot safer than most places, I heard of a boat getting cast off last year (dont even know if its true) but theres that many boaters about that someone would just tie it back up. Ive never seen any vandalism. More out of the way, the skipton side of Thorlby swing you can get on for about 100 yards past the landing after the little gate before depth (my boat draws 2 feet six) and the Leeds and Liverpool shelf become an issue and also drive down the track and park next to your boat. There you just get dog walkers and cyclists. If you dont mind parting with a few quid Niffany farm might be worth a ring, offside mooring by Niffany swing bridge they have many spaces this time of year as peeps are off cruising and might do a short term let.
  19. There are paid lockies on the Bank Newton flight on the L&L between March and October. They also look after the 6 locks through Gargrave.

  21. lock keepers always ask where your going its called small talk they could ask what do you do for a living, what do you drive and whats your house worth. no boats passed me for a fortnight and yes i am on a main line if i had a magic wand id use it to dry up the freekin mud
