  2. oh no! We are meant to be going that way up to Standedge tunnel early next month! This will be the third time we have failed to get there
  3. True, but they do let you see as much 'new' canal as possible in a limited holiday period. I think with a decent sized and organised crew the OP will be ok. Just help boats ahead of you and set locks in advance etc It is a beautiful route, especially the Warwickshire G.U
  4. Forgot to add that Hillmorton took us an hour and a half last weekend as only one lock of each lock pair is in operation at the moment! Not sure how long this is going to last, hopefully both sets will be open again by July.
  5. Hi CT, were these moorings in Henley on the field downstream from the bridge or the ones that look like council run mooring above the bridge? Never actually stopped in Henley to investigate but am planning on doing so later in the year. Thanks! Dave
  6. Hi Gary Sounds doable, although Kingswood to Minworth is a very long day! But the evenings are long too at least. I take it you are going via Knowle/G.U? Have you checked the stoppage on the Garrison locks in Birmingham? This will add a bit to the journey Enjoy! Dave
  7. Somebody must have been listening as there are now good moorings above the 2 Hawford locks! Avoiding an awkward night on the river pontoon below the locks (as we had to do a couple of years ago)
  8. Once you get to the end there is a nice walk over Greywell tunnel and along some of the disused section the other side of the tunnel. Enjoy! More boats should visit!
  9. Hi, it seems that the first stage of consultation on this has gone 'live' now. https://www.oxford.gov.uk/downloads/file/2533/consultation_brief_-_draft_waterways_pspo_for_consultation The council say they are going to consult with boater groups as part of this stage. I'm new to this but keen to help to try to limit the impact of any new rules on boaters. Is emailing the council at this stage a good idea? Or better to wait until the second stage when there will be a public online survey/questionnaire? Thanks!
  10. I think I agree with magnetman. My very limited understanding of this idea of transferring EA waters to CRT was that CRT have more money as they have lots of property due to owning land surrounding the canals? And money from the government that has a guarantee (for a while at least). Whereas EA are subject to the government imposed budget cuts and have many other things on their plate apart from navigation...
  11. There were a fair few mooring spaces along the regents and hertford union (even Victoria Park) in London Sunday afternoon! Something I have never seen before...
  12. It would be interesting to know if crt do make an insurance claim. Does anyone know if they previously have in similar incidents?
  13. Really? 24 hour boating!? But there are loads of places to moor, they can just be a bit hard to spot at first. Apparently even the meadows at Cogenhoe are still ok (despite the No Mooring signs) if you go and ask at the Caravan club.
  14. I used to think that too, but a combination of laziness and poor centre lines on the hire boats I started out on meant I never actually got around to morring with a centre line!
  15. Not been a good month for the K&A!
  16. It seems the problem is using a centre line to moor. I can only assume people do it to make the boat less inviting to vandals considering untying boats? Had a similar experience in the Elsmere Arm last month. We were passing on tick over heading back out of the arm and made just one (of the many) moored boats roll as we passed. Sure enough a lady popped her head out of the side hatch and shouted to pass at tick over!
  17. Another great mooring spot is the meadow below papercourt lock. Always plenty of space there and it seemed pretty deep, and you can walk down to the ruined priory!
  18. That's right, there is a small charge (or maybe its a donation, not sure) during hours unless you buy something from them. But once they close it can be accessed with the bw key
  19. Sorry! Still getting the hang of posting by phone!
  20. This is very good to know about! And very odd crt haven't signposted it. On a related note, we only recently found out that the elsan disposal at anglo-welsh/great haywood junction can be opened with a bw/crt key out of hours. This is very good to know about! 22. Thanks again everyone! I think I'm going to enjoy this forum! And looks like I will try Goring
  23. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Hadn't thought of Cookham!
  24. I didn't know you could book at any of the lock moorings? Is this something other locks do?
