  1. It’s like every big river, people can fill your head with this and that and fear, but the lock keepers will advise and only let him out if conditions are safe. On the day he might travel with a few boats that have done it before, so he can slot in with them. Everyone has different thoughts and opinions on risk and how difficult it is and he will gauge this once he’s done it.
  2. Their not Mongrels to their fashionable young owners they’re “Designer” Cockerpoo’s, Labradoodles and whatever other designer dogs can fit into a onesie and their Gucci handbag ?
  3. I have welded fender bars on the gunwhale that I do not use. But have and use 4x fender eyes along each side on the handrail like the pic, 1x front, 1x centre and 2x rear, I only cruise with one each side at rear to cushion the impact when coming into lock landings(single handed) my total number of fenders is 2-4 and when I moor up I just clip to the appropriate side and then remove when travelling.
  4. He’ll be advised by the lock keepers both at Selby and Naburn and they will operate the lock according to the safe tide times and let him out. He will probably travel with at least one other Narrowboat and be totally safe, like the hundreds of Narrowboats that do it every year. Please stop trying to over egg the situation.
  5. He’s going from Leeds to York via Selby. So no need for any of the above. Just confusing him if anything, just use your common sense not anywhere has he mentioned any of the above so completely irrelevant to his initial post.
  6. Exactly, when an extension lead from a socket to the washing machine plug will do the job when the washing machine is needed to be used. No hassle, no planning, no woodwork altering, no mess and no making good any damage. No Brainer. But obviously Too simple to use?????
  7. Narrowboat users aren’t really concerned with most of the channels you mention as I would say more for off shore. Most just just use Ch74 and any specific to the lock or area their in or want to contact. I don’t think the OP needs to know that much about VHF, unless he wants to.
  8. I know lots of Narrowboat owners who have a VHF radio, but none that have a license. Most just use their mobile phones to communicate with the lock keepers but have them on just to monitor the airwaves. The larger GRP’s on the Ouse and Trent tend to use VHF more, so it’s always handy as Nick says to listen out for them to try and gauge traffic you might meet.
  9. Yes the Lince Locks are more refined and look a bit more pleasing on the eye for an internal front door. Mine is just a long throw gate one. May change to one in the Lince range ?
  10. Looking at the boat I think it would have to be a one like the Zanussi Studio Line washers, I fitted one into a similar space last year but had to take the cupboard back board out, the Zanussi range are good so maybe worth a look at these?
  11. I second this type. As said different variations available: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372896510763 Ideal for outward opening front doors, but you will have to put a coller/shroud on the key barrel as it will extend beyond the door. With the long throw you can’t open the doors unless the lock is unlocked(open) Top pic is with both outward opening doors free and you can’t open them due to the long throw bolt, this one is without the unlock release button so you need the key to release/unlock which is better for security. The second pic shows the shroud outside, as it has a long key barrel.
  12. As said previously just use an extension lead to the nearest socket when you need to use it. Will save all the hassle of routing a permanent mains feed and making good any woodwork you damage a lot easier, quicker and cheaper.
  13. It’s a shame he has not more subscribers, a lot of Newbie boaters would learn from Vloggers like this, instead of watching Vloggers who think they are something special with their boring cruising Vlogs that’s all about themselves.
  14. What’s the ruling with moving on the Thames in lockdown? Have boats still got to move every 14 days as it’s not C&RT water as you say? Or is the rule suspended as on CaRT waters?
  15. May be the mooring is classed as safe now as no flood risk? What I remember they were on moorings below the lock and not on the actual lock landing, so could be waiting till the 14 day rule comes back into force which may give them time to sort the engine out to move under their own steam.
  16. All she’s asking for is a follow which costs nothing. More respect then most other Vloggers, especially the other young couple(Boating Beyond) who had the problems last year with the leaking boat and over plating, who did nothing but moan and set up Patreon and Paypal accounts for donations and the Newbie Couple( Love Life Triumph) living at Mercia on a brand new boat who have also set up Patreon and Paypal giving accounts. She and her partner obviously have more self-respect then the two Vloggers above as to not ask for money and are just getting on with it. Good luck to them both.
  17. That’s where she gets my respect, she seams to be just getting on with it after her initial cock-up. No crowd funding or asking for Paypal donations. This bucks the trend of the Newbie Boater Vloggers. The New Boater couple who make me laugh are the couple moored at Mercia on a residential mooring (£3800?) have just bought a new boat(£100K?) new car(£10K?) have a new drone(£1K) films with a iPhone promax(£1K+) Works full time and are always dressed in designer gear, yet they say they have a donations, Patreon and Paypal page for people to support them and give them money. Why do they think people should give them money? These are the Vloggers/people that get no respect.
  18. Possibly the 29th according to the CaRT Boaters update.
  19. Can you check your writing 4hp? Do you mean Barrus Shire 40? There may be a brass plate on the top of the engine with the engine identification number on, something saying: Shire 04 40 1 999. 04(build year) 40(horsepower) 1(issue number) 999(serial number) If you can find it, it will be easy to identify the belt required.
  20. I would recommend going to Lincoln from Torksey to break the Trent journey up, but that’s as far as I would recommend. To Boston I wouldn’t bother, boringly mind numbing and to make it worse you keep thinking “I have to go back this way” total waste of diesel.
  21. Already been done both idea and post, mentioned about 6 hours ago further down.
  22. Even the “Foxes afloat” so called high end Narrowboat at £130K was nothing special and lacked any character. A local boatbuilder would easily eclipse that with a better shell, an interior with character for £20K less. Another local builder is regularly building boats for customers from £200-£300K which are totally bespoke and mind blowing which would of been more in keeping with the programme title.
  23. Didn’t get why the narrowboats were on, sorry to say not one that was anything special and in the higher end of Narrowboat design, construction and price. Would much rather of seen some of the original Dutch barges that have been brought over from the Continent and renovated to a high standard.
  24. Seen it but watching Ch5+1 to confirm my eyes, I wonder if it was picked up by the Surveyor when dry docked and full surveyed on the recommendation of the estate agent valuation guy. Anyone know if it’s up for sale anywhere?
