  1. What size boat? Would it not be more expedient to repair the mounts?
  2. Cold is fine, you just need the engine cooling water pump running although it sounds as if all is now well again.
  3. Now you have found the cause Martin, re bleed the engine heating coil at the calorifier in case more air has been introduced. Do this with the engine running.
  4. I knew I shouldn't have left you on your own Nick! How far have you got? I have just been forced to stop to remove a collapsible water container from the prop. Think I will call it a day, may catch up tomorrow.
  5. Tolsons mill is the big building on the right as you come into the junction from Birmingham.
  6. I have just visited the cafe in the old mill building. It has only been open two weeks. Great coffee, cake and brilliant value for money. Open seven days a week. The mill is running workshops in all things knitting and other yarn crafts. An excellent use for a historic building that would otherwise fall into dereliction. Well worth a visit!
  7. Morning Martin, check the intake water filter and the water pump impeller. If they are both clear, see if there is an air bleed at the top connection of the engine circuit coil in the calorifier. If there is no bleed point, just crack the connection and bleed it there. Sounds like you're having a great trip!
  8. Not a good plan, there is no mating face for the washer against the gate valve due to the internal chamfer for the original olive.
  9. Some of the gates on the Stratford are a little tricky. I have just travelled the full length, and, apart from an interesting conversation with a householder outside Hockley Heath, it was a lovely trip. We were moored outside her cottage behind a high hedge but she was insistent that she owned that section of towpath. She wanted to know why we were ignoring the Police signs against mooring, unfortunately these signs were only in her world! Hey ho, we just moved on.
  10. We used Tawny's mooring on Monday while we went to the cafe. Now in Stratford.
  11. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  12. BOC now do a cheeky little hydrogen fuel cell. A bit pricey to run at £50 per 3kwh though!
  13. Or to not draw attention to the fact that you have run aground.........again...
  14. Hi G L and welcome to the forum. I'm nowhere near you I'm afraid so cannot help with a tow. I suggest a large sign on the boat asking for a tow, with luck a passing boat may assist.
  15. Awwww come on Bettie, spiders are lovely........lightly sautéed with a little butter and garlic!
  16. That's the advantage of a steel boat Bettie, you can use those plastic boats as fenders!
  17. Tipping it down here in Rutland. Back to the boat this evening ready for another week of welding pontoons. Only nine to go!
  18. Great report Bettie, keep it up. I agree about the lack of boats on the move. I finally did my delivery on wed/thurs from Dunstable to Buckby, saw very few boats on the move and never shared a lock for the whole trip. It was almost spooky!
  19. Well spotted Tim. I agree with your comments re choice of valve, there just isn't enough metal in the ball isolators.
  20. I assume the skin fitting has a parallel male thread. If this is the case, I would use a second back nut and plumbers hemp and a jointing paste such as Boss White. Once the valve has been screwed onto the male thread, the back nut can be used to look it up.
  21. Never had a problem. How fast do you expect to cook a stir fry then?
  22. I bet that somewhere in the handbook for the generator, it says "do not leave unattended". Just the "out" that the insurance company will need should the worst happen. There is probably such a clause in the insurance conditions anyway.
