  1. Very pleased to hear the Waterways World report was an error. KG make very fine craft! (From a very satisfied owner!)
  2. Here is another type... My link
  3. Hmmm.....clearly things haven't! Ken
  4. Thanks. I will try and find a phone that has an external aerial socket. Maybe that will work better. Certainly with the induction pad version I don't see any improvement! Ken
  5. Hobbs of Henley on the River Thames do day boat hire.
  6. Where we are moored, 3 and Vodafone normally give 2 bars out of a possible 5 for signal strength when the phone is near the window. Inside the boat the signal, not unsurprisingly, disappears completely. I have been looking at ways to improve the phone signal (I-phone on Vodafone and 3 on a Nokia) and opted for a 'boaters phone' Midi Mag mount which sits on the roof and the cable connected to the phone by a sticky pad over the internal aerial. Having tried it now for several days I am afraid to say that it seems to have been a complete waste of money. It has made no noticeable difference! Even in the window I still only get 2 bars on either phone with it connected! Has anyone on the forum used these aerials with any positive results? Ken
  7. It can be really convenient to be able to control systems using your phone. We have the 'boat warden' system fitted which monitors and switches various systems on the boat by sms including intruder entry. It can't light a coal fire though......yet!
  8. We have the Hurricane fitted, and are very impressed! It just works! Day in and day out! I have had experiences of both Eberspacher and Webasto's in the past and decided that I would never want either of these again. It seemed there was always something going wrong with them to the extent that I was never confident they would work when I really needed them! The Hurricane has been consistently reliable and so simple to use with it's timer/stat! In summer we use it just for hot water when not cruising or on shoreline. Unlike the adapted truck units (ebers/webasto) which seem tempramental, the Hurricane units in their original form, I understand were designed for the inhospitable Canadian winter where they were switched on in October and off in April!
  9. We use a Nature Pure undersink filter system by General Ecology and very pleased with it. The system costs around 200GBP and replacement filters costs around 50GBP. http://www.purewateronline.co.uk/Nature-Pure.html
  10. You don't say if you have had the boat for a while and it has recently developed this 'fault' or if you have recently acquired the boat and you have filled the header tank and it is 'losing' water. If the latter, then the amount of cooling water in the whole system is quite a lot when you take into account the skin tank. engine block. calorifier etc and there could well be a lot of expansion taking place normally. It might be that your header tank isn't large enough to deal with the expansion. Does it continue to lose water or does it reach a level and then remain at that level? Is so, then topping it up will just cause it to continually blow out the excess. But if it reaches, and remains at a lower level, then it might just be the header tank is too small for the system.
  11. It's Jet A1, but I am sure they wouldn't take too kindly to you pitching up at the airport with a few cans to fill! And I can just imagine you trying to get through airport security with your 100ml bottles!
  12. Thanks guys. Just wondered if it might be a known feature of LED's affecting DAB radios! Clearly not! I suspect it's the quality of the components/circuitry! They are all from the same source and they all give the same problem. I'll get on to supplier and get their input! Ken Thanks guys. 13. Slightly I have a Pure Evoke DAB and also a small Roberts DAB radio. Since I have recently fitted LED lighting throughout, as soon as I switch on any LED light within about 15 feet, the DAB radios just go silent! Anyone experienced this before and has anyone an explanation? Thanks Ken
  14. The facility to remotely control sytems on the boat can be really useful. I have a 'Boat Warden' security system and a couple of it's many functions turns on/off heating and/or cabin lights via an iphone or android app! It won't stoke up the Morso though!
  15. Been there several times and always found a spot, even in August!

Great job! The rate you seem to be completing the work, you might even get some cruising in before the end of the summer! Good luck!
  17. Mine is a Reeves/Kingsground. 10 years old now. Recently had a full 'out of water survey' and no corrosion whatsover, just minimal pitting at a few points on the baseplate. The Internal fitout by Kingsground is still in first class order, with many practical features! The Beta 43 is a well proven and respected engine. I would doubt that a Chinese offering will be the same after 10 years!
  18. I have often wondered which is better, give them a wide berth, or keep to the middle of the channel? I've had conflicting replies from those fisherman I have asked. Would the anglers amongst us care to comment?
  19. Thank you....thats my understanding as well! And we end up indirectly paying for the legal costs through our hard earned licence fees!
  20. So.....let me get this right....if Mr Moore parked his camper van on the hard shoulder of the M1 motorway...he could claim an abuse of his human rights if he was moved on by the Highways Agency? Given that there are official places for parking - paid and otherwise, just as there are official places for mooring. Can someone kindly explain to me the difference between mooring his boat on a waterway (with a right of navigation), and parking his camper van on the highway (with a right of passage)? I am a little confused as to his reasoning!

    Alarm system

I think this is what you are looking for. www.boatwarden.com It monitors several things including change of boat position, bilge level, shorepower status, intruder/hatch alarm, and can control heating/lighting all via a smartphone app. and sms messaging. Ken
