  1. Well if enough people want it here , I can let you use my pbx to do this :-)
  2. Depending what you want to do something like this can be adopted for you. http://www.techmixer.com/build-free-voip-pbx-pabx-system-with-3cx-phone-system/ so, if you have a friend with a fix line telephone line and internet access, then just add a voip pbx, and bingo. It's really quite easy to do. Also, you can place your pbx anywhere. Perhaps if i understand where you want to call, if you need incoming calls, etc etc etc i can design a solution for you. Cheers,
  3. what kind of connection problems are you having? how are you connecting to the internet?
  4. |Got mine working. Got a netgear WDN3300 i flashed it with dd-wrt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DD-WRT network looks like this (my PC) ---- Wifi 5ghz---->(WDN3300 in Bridge Client mode)------2.4ghz wifi-------(remote access point)--->LAN--> Internet Accesss works fine. If you want a detailed configuration, then please PM. This need no configuration changes to the remote access point, as long as you can connect a client (PC) to it, you should be able to connect the dd-wrt to it, and extend the range. As the WDN3300 is dual band, we don't get the wifi bandwidth penalty as we use 5ghz to communicate with WDN3300 and 2.4ghz to connected back to the access point. Cpt Death.
  5. You can also get ethernet enabled camera's, no need for a long usb cable and better data rates than USB? Wifi enabled camera's are expensive, but will also do the job without wires :-). For the ultimate solution, you could use a piece of fibre :-)
  6. my electroquest 45A charger has a button to half the output power from 45A to 22.5A . Handy if you generate hates large startup loads and the like. It seems that it's quite good at taking the available amps from the generator, rather than popping a fuse. However my generator is old and clunky, and not one of these new inverter type's. Not exactly power control , but it does work well. on shorepower i can get 540 watts ,directly if the battery want that much current. On generator, i can get 300-400 watts of power. not all of that is going to the charger, I'm not quite sure what my Power factor is.
  7. I got the 45amp version and i must say i'm happy with it. Don't know how long it will last!! :-)
  8. the second mouse gets the cheese... but the zombies get the brains. Yeah, i'm looking for a water purification system, so i can rain water, collect it, and turn it to drinkable water... Also, if that's not possible i presume the kits mentioned can take your internal tank water, and bring it up to drinkable standard?
  9. Really, so they don't work then ... shame.... zombie death here i come.
  10. Hi, Does any one use On board water purification systems/havesting? are they viable, do they work? are they ridiculously expensive? Why do i need one? Well I'd like to survive the forcomming zombie apocalypse , and using tap to refill might be hazardous? Also, maybe not drinking water, but grey water for washing? can it be recycled?

  12. We all have the internet and internet capable phones, (if you don't have the internet, then i'd like to know how you post here), So why not use something like twiiter...just register your boatname as your 'account' and tweet on the correct hashtag. Hashtag Boater_GUC or Boater_Trent etc etc. Just 'tune in' to the correct hashtag, and see live tweets from other boaters in your area. Doesn't have to be twitter, could be skype, xmpp, irc, sms txt messages, or any other kind of store and forward messaging system on the internet. Would cost a penny to setup or use.....just need a small 'critical mass' of internet boaters to adopt the system, and we have a useful warning system. I'd do a feed of the weather for that day, every day, making the system useful from day one. not exactly the shipping forcast... :-) views? would be very simple to develop a smartphone app that does this. heheh , got me thinking anyhow.
  13. nasty. I guess it's a case of buy cheap buy twice. If you know electronics, it may be worth taking it apart, and seeing what went wrong. If it's a cooling, fan, then a 12v pc fan may just be as good for a drop in replacement. However, if you've run it without a fan, it's likely something has melted. Open it up (with out the power connected) and take some photo's, i'll do a post mortem for you, before you commit to the sea for burial. (please recycle it). also, check you mains input, I always use surge protectors with anything more than a lightbulb. maybe a AC spike blew it up? But , again, you can't expect something cheap, to last be as well built as something expensive. I suppose victron charges are 5 times the price for a reason (they also contain gold bars). Buy cheap , and you buy twice. if you are poor, you buy twice if you are rich, you buy once, and save money long term. This one of the ways the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Show me a company that does this type of stuff with a lifetime warranty. I hope you can post some burnt out circuit board photo's soon!
