  1. As the trained skipper for moving Scorpio and Leo we had exited every lock from Birmingham to Audlem with cross straps where there wasn't a strong cross flow. On Adderley and Audlem a short line was used to give the motor more steerage to be able to counter the flow. There were only two locks where issues were encountered, this being one of them due to not running out on a long enough short line so the motor had no steerage. I was not steering as I was allowing crew to steer but as I am not allowed to stand on the gunnels in a lock I can only advise from the bank. As life wasn't in danger I let the steerer make the mistake so he would learn from it as I did with the other crew member on the previous occasion. Interesting that the "expert" at Adderley told the steerer to use a 14ft line as he was coming out on cross straps...!
  2. Are you Dave on the counter of Scorpio or the other person on the towpath...?
  3. The problem is they stretch and get tangled, LPs are better or CDs if you want to be able to chuck them in the car
  4. On my tablet if I tap on an individual post the Report Post text becomes white and clearly visible but without doing that it is almost the same colour as the background so I expect it has a mouseover style being applied.
  5. Hire boats are often well thought out in terms of accessibility for maintenance as generally time is restricted when getting ready for the next hire. This is an advantage to a boat where everything has been hidden behind fancy panelling.
  6. Maybe down to the definition of night, you could take a 6 hour break between 10pm and 4am which would mean you are boating when it is still possible to see without additional lights on at that time of year.
  7. It is from the Leeds and Liverpool so wait to share the wide locks.
  8. I agree, remove the cut beam so nobody gets hurt and allow boats through at lock operators risk. Use a short shaft or rope to open\close gates.
  9. According to the tweets from Lee Bates the beams were left on site, they just cut them off and left them there so they weren't after the timber.
  10. Looks like they have been cut off again Update on 28/07/2017: Unfortunately the newly installed beam has been vandalised again overnight, having been cut through. It will be closed again until further notice, we will update as soon as we have any more information.
  11. I would consider doing it in three days, (Day 1 to Stourton Junction, Day 2 to Penkridge and Day 3 to Streethay) but not two.
  12. It's been there since the upgrade, select some text and hover over it allowing a selective quote.
  13. Blossom on Darley waiting to enter lock 13 on the Audlem flight from last Sunday.
  14. Was there a problem with width at one time with some Liverpool boats...?
  15. Blossom waited on Darley for us to lock down from the Town pound on Sunday he then moored outside the Shroppie Fly.
  16. I went on the Lady H about 6 years ago in Stourport and it had a leaky wooden hull then, water was seeping through as I was being shown around.
  17. You should stop at Beeses (http://beeses.co.uk) on your way in to Bristol.
  18. Or even stop anywhere on the K&A due to all the CMers.
  19. She was moored in Teddesley a few weeks ago when we came through.
  20. Joules Brewery had a very drinkable special on when I was in the Red Lion for a meal on Saturday night.
  21. The usage charge is if you don't have a Canal and River Trust Licence, for example if you only have a licence for the Bridgewater. For CRT licenced boats it is just the Advanced booking charge of £5 single or £10 return.
  22. Somebody once asked me what del c:\*.* would do so I suggested they tried it and walked away. They weren't very happy after pressing Y. Software developers regularly make changes as they think it is the right thing to do or makes navigation better. I've done it myself where I think I have added a great feature but others don't have the same view. Often the problem is the developer knows how to use it as they wrote it but the usage it not obvious to everyone else. I the now I often use the filters to find posts and think that is a useful feature now I've got used to using them but it has been a bit of a case of finding a use for some of the features.
  23. That must have been the same one we met on the Audlem flight yesterday who was not a happy chappy.
  24. The scrotes from 2008 may have grown up now. The last couple of times I have boated through Autherley this year (latest being last Friday) there have been moored boats all along the Staffs and Worcs section both sides of the junction.
  25. Hopefully competent crew. I did mention towing so it could be inferred that it is a pair of boats.
