  1. This might be tempting fate but we've had our duntons since about 1993 and theve coped well with everything thrown at them....ones a plus model too. SWMBO only swaps to a steel one when it's a less than nice area and she doesn't fancy being done for "going equipped".... I think they hadn't been out long when we got them....maybe the alloy was stronger then?
  2. Debdale wharf has good facilities for hard standing ashore. Indeed quite a few owners of boats on the hard here are doing similar to yourself. Gareth.
  3. Llewellins's gears in Bristol. Might not be the cheapest but excellent reputation. Did a fine job on my JP reversing & reduction box.
  4. I too was with Towergate and had been since it was Michael stimpson. On chatting to a well respected surveyor it was suggested I enquired from other companies. It seems due to take overs they are not what they were...indeed I had noticed a decline in service myself. I went to GJW who were half the price and twice as helpful. I've also heard good things about them paying out should the worst happen from more than one source. It does seem that loyalty counts for nothing....indeed I didn't even get a follow up when I didn't renew with Towergate. I've also had a similar experience with my classic Land Rover insurance.
  5. Emailed some pictures.....look forward to hearing from you guys Gareth
  6. Not just 230v.....I know we all have to start somewhere but the questions asked on both some of the facebook groups and in person when I've been out on the cut really make me wonder....just basic stuff....like "how do I drill a hole in metal" .......perhaps people are less practical today..... I agree the 230v and gas questions are more of a worry as there is a greater chance of killing yourself or others.
  7. Ironic that it's the nbta organisation who suddenly seemed concerned about navigation when in reality their members seem to want to do anything apart from navigate.....
  8. Thanks for letting us know.....I suppose we just now need to keep an eye out for CRT just trying to fit them anyhow. Gareth
  9. Im a Debdale Wharf Marina with an acrylic cover that has some stubborn green that wont shift where the cover goes over the cants.....i can send pics if thats helpful.....ive tried some other products but none seem to either clean fully or stop regrowth.....let me know! Cheers
  10. I'm not sure you can ever keep all users happy. But altering a historic structure to benefit a user group that doesn't pay directly and starts a precedent for the detriment of one that does is daft....where do you think it should stop?? All towpaths tarmac....all bridges made narrow....locks are very dangerous....etc...etc.
  11. I'm truly shocked at the people on here who don't see a problem with drastically altering a historical structure for little gain. All it will mean is cyclists will go faster...then moan pedestrians are causing an obstruction...surely nothing is solved apart from what's a rather nice historic structure. As I said before if this gets allowed what's next?? Gareth
  12. Isn't it a "fibreline" boat. They were a short lived producer of GRP narrowboats although the others I've seen are about 45 foot....made somewhere in wales I seem to recall...think the chap got some sort of grant then realised they were not really what the market wanted.....and went bust!
  13. So if this towpath gets widened perhaps the bridges should be next....then perhaps the rest of towpath is a bit narrow...and not many boats use it so let's fill in the canal and make a lovely wide road....... I'm afraid I'm not joking.......
  14. I saw this post.....does anyone know if it's serious? I really hope not....I love watching two high speed cyclists meet there as I boat through!! Seriously though it's getting daft if it's getting to the stage of rebuilding historic structures just to keep a user group who don't even directly contribute to the upkeep of the network happy. Gareth
  15. That's helpful....thanks for keeping us posted....you have certainly got further than I managed! Gareth
  16. Quite probably....I forgot that it's more important to pick up spelling & grammar than to actually act on anything posted on here.....
  17. When the idea was first muted I wrote to him asking him if he was aware of it.....it would have been nice to at least of had an acknowledgement.
  18. Just because the stoppage doesn't mention it or there is no planning application doesn't mean it might not happen. Thank you for bringing it to everyone's attention again. I think this is something that needs to be kept an eye on.
  19. I emailed him when it was first muted and never got a reply.....I wouldn't hold your breath! Gareth
  20. Indeed. If you are feeling flush you can buy NEC grade which isn't supposed to leave any residue however long you leave it down....mind you I've used some cheap stuff over the years which has resulted in some hasty exits from venues........
  21. Don't get the U.S. techs on a Facebook group I'm on arguing the difference between duct & gaffer tape.....you thought arguments on here could get pedantic! Gareth.
  22. Indeed it is! My brain and my fingers appear to not be linked tonight!.....what a muppet! Gareth
  23. Sorry to pick hairs Tony but 3000kVa would power a small town.....more likely to be Va.....I know it sounds pedantic and I'm far from trying to point score but don't want to add to confusion Gareth
  24. Just to add to the confusion according to a mailshot I received today Jabsco now do a Par Max Plus range in 4/5/6 lpm and a range of pressures. They apparently have larger motors and a redesigned pump head. http://www.xylemflowcontrol.com/files/PAR-Max_Plus_82X00_SS_950-0798.pdf Gareth
  25. I've recently had this....as I brought my boat over 20 years ago and done a fair bit of improvement work on it I wasn't impressed. Even less impressed with a supposedly respected brokerage who wouldn't put a value in writing....should I sell they will not be getting my business on principle Eventually my insurance company (GJW) came to an acceptable aggrement....which hopefully will stand up at renewal.....and if I have a claim! It seems very different to my classic Land Rover insurance where I have to supply pictures and name my agreed price...I then pay based to my valuation.....if I overvalue it I'm paying in increased premiums. Gareth
