  1. I am going to purchase some smoke, gas and CO detectors. Smoke is ok (it goes up), gas is ok (it goes down) but how high, or low, should I fix the CO detector. Many thanks. Daiboy.
  2. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Wheel-Garden-Cart-Truck-Trolley-Wheelbarrow-Tipper-Tipping-Trailer-38-x-20-/121034754109?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenEquipment_HandTools_SM&hash=item1c2e3bc83d Like this one I purchased. VERY good
  3. Great British Bike Off (10-12 September, 2014): This unique three day ride, exclusive to Canal & River Trust, will see teams of cyclists journey from London to Leeds. The well-planned road route will also call at some famous waterway locationsWhy don't the C&RT use the towpaths, then they would see how bad some (all) of them are??
  4. Done and all ok. A few points; Waterways World dished out a very comprehensive moorings guide for 2013/2014 which holds a hell of a lot of info, BUT I will add that there only a few costs, doesn't ask the question of council tax and some are not clear about post boxes. As I'm a cc'r I answered the mooring question as leisure mooring as I'm here for the winter. Ta
  5. Don't tell them too much. They are probably looking for cc over stayers or something quite as dastardly
  6. Hi MTB, It's all very well to throw caution to the wind (pardon the pun) when you are an experienced boater and have the ability to handle a boat in such situations. However, if you are a newbie, to err on the side of caution should be one's mantra. Practice, practice, practice as a friend of mine always reminds me. Perhaps a few "voyages" with someone experienced in such conditions would be called for, after all you don't pass your driving test without some lessons.
  7. Stay put and walk to where you can get a taxi or bus. Much better to spend money on them than to spend money on an insurance claim if you actually damage someone's boat.
  8. I am not following this thread. Surely a self pump out does not "pump" into a normal bog pan as this would be ridiculous. I, if and when I have to, pump out to a large container and then trolley this to an "elsan" depository. Wash down, clean my container and job done.
  9. As with others, sorry to hear about your burglary. Best thing to do is put some "goodies" on show through some window, stay in the dark with a big stick and give them shite when they come back. English mans' home is his castle and all that. Protecting your own property with fear of your life. Give them a beating!!!!
  10. I can also work with saltysplash if you would like. I am wintering in the vc marina at Langley/Iver. Could take a few more photos and either send them or post them on this thread.
  11. Hi Brian and welcome, It's now Sunday so I would imagine you would have passed the Slough Arm by now. If not, come on down to bridge 7 (couple of miles, no locks) moor up on the towpath and have a beer with Abacus. If not, have a good Christmas in Uxbridge.
  12. I get the weekly/monthly email from this site enclosing a newsletter. I visit the website and it looks kosher. I have never seen this advert however, even though I had a newsletter email today. You are able to purchase the aforementioned software from the legit site. I, like you, don't fancy this advert. Don't do it!!
  13. This happened just 10 mins ago. Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 17825792) (tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in /home/ggbqjfrf/public_html/forums/admin/sources/classes/output/publicOutput.php(1759) : eval()'d code on line 1290 Ok now Duh... I'm posting, it must be ok you dum dum
  14. Having to be rescued by RNLI at Brentford after my engine cut out, anchor wouldn't bite and the tide had us in its grip.
  15. Getting rough here in Berkshire as well. It'll be over around midnight here. Hope my little Christmas tree stays put this time !!!
  16. Welsh !!! We have that saying though ........ Where there's a Will there's a way relations.
  17. Reading all the posts here, I think I might be the luckiest damn boater in the whole world. My Gold licence is up at the end of this month "December". I have a reminder on my gmail calendar which also transfers to my phone. Needed none of the electronic stuff as the marina manager sent me a reminder in October !!!, CRT sent me a reminder complete with forms in November. As I don't need a gold licence for the foreseeable future, all I did was score out "Gold" and write in "Standard", write a cheque for the reduced fee and including the early discount, gave it to the marina manager who duly sent it off, received a text from CRT to say thanks for prompt payment and I should receive the bits in the next 5 days, two days later my mate turns up with the licence (as I live aboard, I use his address as my post drop for "important" mail). Job done.
  18. How about a 240v digital tv playing any radio station through your inverter. Does that draw too much from the battery? Even with the engine running on moving!!
  19. OK, so this is bridge hopping on a 50 mile scale. You must be very lucky then to have no worries about where you leave the boat or car and not have any break in or damage (especially in a layby). Good luck. My "personal" view is that to enjoy the waterways one should not have any material ties (apart from a cycle) to thoroughly enjoy. MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS !!
  20. This thread seems to be a little bit of an anomaly. How can one be a cc'r with a job and a vehicle. Surely the worries will arise as to "where will I leave my boat" and "where will I leave my vehicle". One cannot travel the cc'r ruling whilst holding down a job (one will have to go to work in the same place every day) and where is the freedom of canal/river cruising when you have to remember where you left the bl**dy car/bike or whatever. This cannot be fun or freedom. Wait until you retire or can work from home (being the boat of course) and then you will really taste freedom.
  21. Wash everything in the washer !! Doh. Dry smalls, handkerchiefs and socks in dryer which is vented to the outside, shirts and trousers are hung up in the aft "office". Use 3Kw genie when not on land line.
